Wasabi cream pasta and pork jowl kimchi puree in Seongsu: Kongkase

In short

Kongkase Seongsu is a pasta and gnocchi restaurant near Exit 5 of Seoul Forest Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Catching up with an old friend at a window seat, three dishes were ordered — wasabi cream pasta, potato gnocchi, and pork jowl with kimchi puree — and all three were satisfying. The generous table spacing makes it a solid pick for a blind date or a date night.

Kongkase Seongsu had great vibes from the start. I came here to meet a friend I was close with growing up, and we chatted so much catching up after so long that time flew by! We sat at a window seat, and the tables were spaced out just enough to make conversation easy.

Ambience matters a lot on a blind date — of course taste matters too, but in my book, the vibe at Kongkase Seongsu was truly perfect.

We also enjoyed the bread that came out before the meal. It was packed with olives, served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and it was delicious.

Wasabi cream pasta ₩18,000

Cream pasta with wasabi mixed in. You get to enjoy the rich, nutty flavor of the cream pasta while also getting a cool, sharp kick from the wasabi at the same time. It was a surprising yet charming combination, and this is one I'm definitely ordering again next time.

The cream sauce was exactly to my taste. You might think it'd be spicy since it has wasabi in it, but it wasn't that spicy at all — just creamy and smooth.

Potato gnocchi ₩19,000

Let me introduce Kongkase Seongsu's signature dish — soft potato gnocchi with mushroom cream. The gnocchi were round and so cute, honestly kind of like baby cheeks haha. They looked delicious, but they tasted even better, and dipping them right into the cream sauce was fantastic.

Pork jowl with kimchi puree ₩36,000

This dish, made with pork jowl and a generous layer of kimchi puree underneath, was genuinely so delicious. I honestly found myself wondering, why isn't this the signature menu item? It was that good. The kimchi puree paired beautifully with the chewy pork jowl.

Wrap-up

This was a true recommendation for a blind date or date spot in Seongsu-dong and Seoul Forest — Kongkase Seongsu. Ambience really matters on a blind date, but of course taste matters too! All three dishes I had at Kongkase Seongsu were completely to my liking.
