Seongsu café with lemon gelato cream soda and Italian brunch: Frolla

In short

Frolla is an Italian brunch café near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul, serving brunch plates with coffee and cocktails. At Frolla we ordered the truffle Parma sandwich, the lemon gelato cream soda and a sheep-shaped biscotti, and both the flavours and the room felt like a trip to Italy. Frolla is a satisfying stop if you want an un-Korean brunch in Seongsu.

Here's the exterior of Frolla — exotic yet modern and design-forward, so it really stood out. It had a distinct character that fit right in with the Seongsu-dong vibe.

I liked being able to check the menu on the board outside before even walking in.

Inside Frolla: modern room, colourful menu boards

The inside was just as modern and clean as the outside. It wasn't a huge space, but there were plenty of tables and seats, and both were spacious enough to sit back comfortably.

The store also had various café merchandise on display — the MD items matched the café's vibe, with sharp, pretty design. Just browsing the merch was fun in itself.

The menu itself matched the café too — colorful and pretty, with a real sense of design.

At the counter, the peach tiramisu and regular tiramisu on sale were on display, so you could see the real thing — super cute.

The café also sells sheep-shaped biscotti, which was ridiculously cute — cute but also very on-brand for the café, which made it even more distinctive.

The desserts, too, leaned Italian, with tiramisu, biscotti, and more offering plenty of variety. Every item on the menu felt distinctive, full of Italian atmosphere, and there was so much I wanted to try. Plus, there were several café-branded merchandise items you could buy alongside your food.

What we ordered: truffle Parma sandwich and lemon gelato cream soda

I ordered the signature brunch, truffle Parma, along with a lemon gelato cream soda to drink, and the cute sheep-shaped cookie. After ordering, the cookie was handed over straight from the counter display, while the brunch and drink were freshly made and brought to my table.

Lemon gelato cream soda
Lemon gelato cream soda

First up, the lemon gelato cream soda — a cool, sweet soda topped with lemon sorbet, and on top of that, a tangy lemon cream. It was a refreshing, tangy drink perfect for summer.

I scooped up the sorbet part first — it was like a cool, sweet granita, great for quenching thirst and perfect for this hot weather. On top of that, the soda itself was cool and sweet, and instead of regular cream, the lemon cream added a tangy note, making it an ideal cool, sweet-tart drink for hot days. Personally, it reminded me of Amalfi in Italy — exotic and sweet-tart, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Next, the truffle Parma sandwich. As soon as it arrived, the truffle scent hit me, and as a truffle lover, I was already excited. The freshly made brunch sandwich was on ciabatta bread, packed with truffle, mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato, mushroom, and vegetables.

The truffle flavor was on point, and combined with the salty prosciutto and tomato, the overall combination felt exotic and almost artistic — delicate, distinctive, and delicious, with a real sense of quality. On top of that, the ciabatta had melted mozzarella on top, so you got the umami of the ciabatta itself along with the gooey cheese — the combination was excellent. Honestly, the best-quality sandwich I've had in a while.

Sheep-shaped biscotti cookie
Biscotti

Frolla's sheep-shaped biscotti, one of Seoul's cutest café desserts

Lastly, I ordered the sheep-shaped biscotti for dessert mostly for the cute look, but it wasn't just cute — it tasted great too, a crunchy chocolate cookie studded with nuts, nutty and delicious. Pairing it with coffee was a great combination — fun to look at before eating, and fun to eat too with that nutty, delicious flavor. Even the cookie ended up tasting way better than I expected.

Brunch meal at Frolla

The brunch was packed with authentic Italian flavor, like I'd actually traveled there — I enjoyed every bite. The drink and the biscotti cookie I ordered alongside it were both delicious too, so overall it was a truly satisfying meal.
