Potato gnocchi and rolled lasagna at Kongkase Seongsu, Seoul Forest

In short

Kongkase Seongsu is a Western-style restaurant on the first floor of a red-brick building between Seoul Forest Station and Ttukseom Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Visiting for a daytime date with a close friend, potato gnocchi (₩19,000) and lasagna (₩23,000) came with a green salad, iced vin chaud, and blueberry ade — the mushroom cream sauce was good enough to dip the bread in. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a big tree inside, it's a solid pick for a Seoul Forest date meal.

Trying to figure out where to eat with a close friend near Seoul Forest, I went looking for a nice-vibe Western restaurant and ended up at Kongkase Seongsu 🤍

Visiting Kongkase Seongsu, a Western restaurant near Seoul Forest

Seongsu and Seoul Forest have so many good restaurants that it actually makes it harder to decide where to go, right?

Kongkase has a wide range of options — pasta, risotto, potato gnocchi, lasagna — and the space itself is pretty, so it made for a great Seoul Forest date spot. Both the gnocchi and lasagna I tried were delicious, so here's my write-up :)

Location and atmosphere of Kongkase Seongsu

Kongkase has that Seongsu-specific vibe from the outside already. It's close to Ttukseom Station Exit 8 or Seoul Forest Station Exit 5 . . ෆ

Inside, the wood-tone interior has a green wall as an accent point, with a big tree standing right in the middle 🌿

Natural light pours in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, so visiting in the daytime made the space feel even brighter and prettier.

They have everything from two-person tables to long tables that fit several people, so it seemed like a good spot for group gatherings as well as dates.ᐟ

Kongkase Seongsu menu and prices

True to its reputation as a Seoul Forest pasta spot, the menu had quite a lot of options.ᐟ

They also had a range of salads, flatbreads, mains, and wine. With pasta as well as gnocchi, risotto, and lasagna to choose from, it's perfect for anyone looking for a Seoul Forest Western restaurant. We ordered the potato gnocchi, lasagna, a salad, blueberry ade, and vin chaud ♡

How the potato gnocchi and lasagna tasted

Potato gnocchi ₩19,000 — the dish we liked most

Potato gnocchi, the dish we enjoyed most at Kongkase!

Plate of potato gnocchi topped with mushroom cream and a poached egg

The gnocchi comes with mushroom cream, potato gnocchi, cheese chips, and a poached egg. When it first arrived, the round little shapes were so cute I took photos before eating haha

Close-up of gnocchi with black-colored pieces mixed in

Black-colored gnocchi were mixed in among the golden-browned ones, so it wasn't a common visual. Crisp on the outside, soft inside, and eaten with the nutty mushroom cream — genuinely delicious.

Adding the poached egg and mushrooms made it even softer and richer in flavor! The cream sauce was especially good, so we ended up dipping the leftover bread into the leftover sauce 🤭 If I come back, I'll definitely order the potato gnocchi again!

Lasagna ₩23,000 — plated as rolled fresh sheets

The lasagna was also visually unique. Unlike the usual square lasagna, it's plated as wide fresh pasta sheets rolled up.ᐟ

The bolognese sauce and cheese came together for a rich, hearty flavor. Eating it with the arugula on top cut through the richness too — great combo 💚

If the gnocchi was soft and nutty, the lasagna was a bit richer, so I was glad we ordered both. And the green salad too! Fresh vegetables with cheese and croutons were great to eat between bites of gnocchi and lasagna ...♡

Final thoughts — how it was for a Seoul Forest date meal

Kongkase Seoul Forest stuck in my memory not just for the food, but for the space itself. The wood-tone interior, the big tree, and the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows all added up to a great atmosphere for a meal. This is happiness, right?🐷🐷
