Gyeongju dessert shop with a 4:30pm second-batch mochi wait: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is an egg tart and fruit mochi takeout shop on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju. Arriving at 4:30pm, after the first batch had sold out, meant about a 10-minute wait for the second batch and four mochi: peach, mango, gold kiwi and fresh chocolate. The outer mochi layer had softened slightly, but the fruit inside was in great shape, and the peach and mango at Tareudang were good enough to buy again.

There's so much good food along Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, but on a day when I really wanted fruit mochi specifically, I headed to Tareudang, well known as one of the best fruit mochi spots on the street!

Tareudang's location, hours, and parking
Here's where Tareudang is! It's right on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil so it wasn't hard to find. It's about a 3–8 minute walk from either the Hwangnam public parking lot or the Daereungwon public parking lot, so accessibility was pretty good too!
Tareudang is a takeout-only shop, so there's no dedicated parking lot. Hours are 11:00–19:00, and it can close early once ingredients run out, so keep that in mind before visiting.

Arrived at 4:30pm, waited 10 minutes for the second batch
I strolled over to Tareudang without thinking much of it, and I was surprised there wasn't much of a line — turns out the first batch had already sold out and I'd caught the wait for the second batch! I arrived at 4:30 and waited about 10 minutes. There were about three groups ahead of me, so I was a little anxious the mochi might sell out.

Tareudang sells egg tarts and fruit mochi. Their principle is same-day production, same-day sale! Since everything's made fresh and sold right away, a lot of people seem to buy these as travel gifts from Gyeongju too.

The day's lineup: 6 mochi flavors
Today's mochi lineup was mango, peach, fig, fresh chocolate, gold kiwi, and pineapple! Every single one looked delicious, so I spent the whole wait agonizing over which ones to get, haha.

Being an egg tart place too, Tareudang's tarts probably would've been great, but I was so locked in on mochi this time that I skipped the egg tarts — regrettably.

Ta-da, successfully got my Tareudang fruit mochi! I wanted to try everything but narrowed it down to four: peach, mango, gold kiwi, and fresh chocolate.

Bring a cooler bag, seriously
The wrapping paper comes in different colors per flavor, which made it easy to tell them apart! I should've eaten them right after buying, but I ended up wandering around Hwangnidang-gil so much that I didn't open the box until I got home. I figured I'd eat them quickly so I skipped bringing a cooler bag — but I ended up walking around Hwangnidang-gil way longer than expected, haha.
If you're like me and won't eat them right away — planning to wander around outside for a while — make sure to join the Naver photo review event and grab the box-plus-cooler-bag set!

Even with the wrapping off, you could tell exactly which mochi was which just by color! The outer mochi felt a little softened, but the fruit inside was in way better condition than I expected.

Tasting the peach, mango, gold kiwi, and fresh chocolate mochi
Peach mochi
The best peach mochi I've had all year. The yogurt cream was just the right level of sweet-and-tangy, and the peach itself was thick and juicy — genuinely delicious.

Mango yogurt mochi
My personal top pick, the mango yogurt mochi. I guess I really do love mango, haha. Tasting it, I got why it's so good! The mochi had softened a bit, so I think it would've been even more impressive eaten right when it was fresh. It seemed to be made and sold almost on the spot given how popular it is, which probably explains why the fruit was in such great shape!

Gold kiwi mochi
The gold kiwi isn't paired with yogurt cream but with fresh whipped cream and red bean instead. The soft sweetness of the cream combined with the sweetness of the red bean made for a surprisingly great combo — and since the fruit itself is such good quality, it probably would've been delicious paired with any cream. Gold kiwi, also excellent.

Fresh chocolate mochi
The fresh chocolate in the chocolate mochi was really good too. Not the flat, chalky taste of cheap chocolate — more like a smooth, rich, premium chocolate flavor.
Would I go back to Tareudang?
I stumbled onto this mochi while just wandering around Hwangnidang-gil, and it turned out way more satisfying than expected — the fruit was so fresh and the cream pairings were delicious! The peach and mango especially were so good I'll probably buy them again the next time I'm in Gyeongju 🥭🍑 If you're looking for something sweet on Hwangnidang-gil and you like fruit, I'd recommend giving Tareudang's mochi a try :)
