Mom-and-daughter lunch: loin cutlet and udon set at Kkot Gatsu Dongtan

In short

Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch is a Japanese pork cutlet (donkatsu) restaurant tucked in a Mokdong alley in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday at 1:30pm, the writer and her mom shared a cheese cutlet and a loin cutlet + hwa-udon set, enjoying stretchy mozzarella cheese cutlet and a juicy loin cutlet with the lemon salt and wasabi combo. Recommended for anyone craving a thick, juicy Japanese-style pork cutlet.

A date day with mom!

I go on solo dates with my mom about twice a month, and this time we visited Kkot Gatsu, a pork cutlet restaurant that's become quite well-known in the Mokdong alley of Dongtan.

I usually love Japanese-style donkatsu (pork cutlet), so I'd been wanting to check this place out — and sure enough, crispy outside and satisfying inside, I got to taste a properly made cutlet!!

Step inside and a cozy wood-toned interior welcomes you. The whole space is kept spotless, and the tables are spaced generously enough for a comfortable meal. 2-top and 4-top tables are arranged efficiently throughout.

Nearly full even at 1:30pm on a weekday

I arrived around 1:30pm on a weekday, a little past the lunch rush, but the restaurant was still nearly packed with people. When I got there, only about two tables were open!

I heard weekend peak hours can mean a wait, so I'd recommend booking ahead through Catch Table.

What we ordered

  • Loin cutlet set (loin + hwa-udon) ₩18,500
  • Cheese cutlet ₩16,500

I wanted to order the premium loin cutlet, but it was sold out. If you want to try the premium loin, come a bit earlier.

For the udon set, you can choose between su-udon (mild flavor) and hwa-udon (spicy flavor).

What we ate at Kkot Gatsu

Table set with Kkot Gatsu's pork cutlet spread

The food didn't take too long to come out. I was hungry, so that was great.

Mozzarella cheese stretching from the cheese cutlet

Cheese cutlet with cheese that stretches on and on

My beloved cheese cutlet — cheese cutlet is my favorite type of donkatsu. Can you see how much cheese is packed in there??

Loaded generously with mozzarella cheese, one bite and it stretches out soft and long. The cheese wasn't overly salty or greasy — it had a clean, mild flavor.

Rice and soup served alongside the cheese cutlet

Rice and soup came along with it too~

I also dipped it into the cheese cutlet sauce~

Two kinds of salt, including lemon salt, and wasabi

Don't skip the lemon salt + wasabi combo

Besides the sauce, two kinds of salt and wasabi came out as well. Kkot Gatsu in particular serves lemon salt — dipping the cutlet lightly in the salt really brings out the savory crunch of the batter along with the clean flavor of the meat itself.

Adding a little wasabi on top cuts the richness while adding a sharp, tingly kick — it went really well together. It has a different charm from dipping it in sauce, so make sure to try the salt + wasabi combo with your donkatsu too!

Table spread with loin cutlet and hwa-udon set

Juicy loin cutlet with the hwa-udon set

Second up: the loin cutlet! Since we ordered the udon set, it came together with hwa-udon.

Cross-section of the loin cutlet showing juicy interior

So much juice bursting out, ㅠㅠ. Crispy outside, moist inside, it just melts in your mouth. It made me even more curious about the premium loin cutlet ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

The spicy hwa-udon set comes with a hot, spicy broth udon, and when the cutlet starts to feel a bit rich, a bite of udon pairs really well with it. The udon itself tastes like the familiar kind everyone already knows~

The food was so good our date with mom was a total success!!! If you're craving a thick, juicy Japanese-style pork cutlet, I recommend Kkot Gatsu 💕
