Thick domestic raw pork at Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal

True Korean strength comes from a good hansik (Korean-style) table. (nodding)

Look at that thick, hefty cut of meat! A proud Dongtan Central Park restaurant that uses only domestic raw pork and fresh menu items.

A table setting with fresh wrap vegetables

All the vegetables were fresh and clean too, which explains why so many families were dining here.

Parking is free right in front of the restaurant!

A genuinely legit local favorite, sitting in the restaurant row between Seokwoo Elementary School and Gaenari Park in Bansong-dong: Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal.

A good restaurant has presence from the outside already.

Group seating for up to 40 — good for a work dinner?

Inside, Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal has everything from 4-person tables to group tables that can seat up to 40 people. It's popular enough that I'd really recommend it for a company dinner or family gathering. Whenever I've walked by on my usual route, it always looked like a hotspot for office workers' weekday evening dinners — packed with customers every time I passed.

Busy restaurant interior with many customers seated

During our whole visit, so many customers came through that every table in the place turned over at least once.

Clean, tidy restaurant interior

Clean and tidy interior!! Even though it's a samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) place, there was no thick smoke or greasy, sticky feeling inside at all — really satisfying how clean it was!

Basic side dishes and the self-serve banchan corner

Basic side dishes and wrap vegetables spread

The condition of the wrap greens that come as basic side dishes! The perilla leaves and lettuce were excellent quality! The peppers were spicy cheongyang chilis, so I sliced them thin before eating...

And a! Massive!! Mixing bowl that doubles as an extra plate, lol.

Seaweed flakes and side dishes, braised soybeans and garlic, ssamjang (dipping sauce), salted squid, and dried radish strips!

Crunchy dried radish strip side dish

Chewy and crunchy — this one was really good!

Seasoned bean sprouts from the self-serve banchan corner
Plate of sliced onion and other side dishes

And from the self-serve banchan corner, seasoned bean sprouts and sliced onion, which you're meant to pair with the samgyeopsal — so we just took a small amount. All the side dishes were neat and delicious. Using domestic ingredients seemed to make them taste even fresher.

Duruchigi (2-person) + egg roll + rice set, ₩28,000

Duruchigi (2-person) + egg roll + rice set, ₩28,000. A recommended set menu with a large egg roll, duruchigi for two, and two bowls of rice.

A bowl of hot, sticky black rice

Nice and hot, sticky black rice.

Pork duruchigi for two topped with enoki mushrooms

Insanely good pork duruchigi for two, topped with enoki mushrooms.

A large egg roll served as part of the set

A large egg roll comes as part of the set too.

Size comparison shot of the egg roll

A size comparison shot.

Honestly, what a perfect pair. Pork duruchigi and a thick egg roll set — this combo is a stroke of genius you have to try.

Duruchigi being cut with scissors while cooking

They cut it into bite-sized pieces with scissors, and since the bubbling enoki mushrooms really need to be cooked through, mix it well while it's still hot.

How's the duruchigi meat and sauce?

The fat-to-meat ratio is just right. Some places use shoulder meat for duruchigi, but Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal operates on the principle of using thick, quality domestic raw pork brought in and used the same day. Maybe that's why the meat is so tender with zero gamey smell. The sauce is spicy, but not the numbing, sharp kind — it's subtly sweet, savory, and clings to your mouth.

Cheese rice cake inside the duruchigi

This isn't just rice cake — it's cheese rice cake! The cheese aroma mingles with the spicy duruchigi sauce for a deep, nutty flavor that spreads through your mouth.

Raw garlic and meat placed on a wrap

I usually can't handle raw garlic because it upsets my stomach, but the raw garlic here looked so clean and moist that I tried it in a wrap — and thanks to the fresh garlic, the flavor was deep without any harsh bite. So good, I almost teared up!

A wrap of lettuce and perilla leaf topped with seaweed flakes

Wrapping tender lettuce and perilla leaf with a bit of seaweed flakes and cheongyang chili — pure bliss...

A piece of egg roll dipped in ketchup

The egg roll is fluffy and savory too, delicious dipped in ketchup. A bite of duruchigi, a bite of egg roll! The combination of spicy-salty and sweet, savory flavors is so good I couldn't stop reaching for more.

A spoonful of rice coated in duruchigi sauce, sprinkled with seaweed flakes and topped with salted squid — one big bite! Ugh... that sauce is out of this world. So delicious.

Duruchigi and rice mixed together in a giant bowl

Mix rice, meat, sauce and seaweed flakes together in the giant mixing bowl. A popular restaurant that's always packed, weekday or weekend, proves it with the taste.

Thick samgyeopsal served at another table

Samgyeopsal, 200g for ₩15,000

I sneaked a look at the samgyeopsal going out to another table and it looked really thick and substantial... and it's 200g for just ₩15,000. What a value-packed restaurant!!!! We made a firm pact with our friend Bamsong to come back just for the samgyeopsal next time, and left patting our full bellies.
