Cozy bar in Yongsan, Seoul for pasta and Egg in Hell: Heui Huam

Heui Huam (흐이 후암) has been one of my go-to spots for repeat visits for a full five years already.

The taste, portions, prices, atmosphere... 💛 This place always gets all four right! I think that’s why I always end up at Heui whenever I’m near Sookmyung Women’s University Station.

This time, I tried ordering something a little different and special: Egg in Hell 🍳🔥 With its tomato base, it was refreshing with a gently spicy kick—totally my taste. And it came loaded with eggs for protein, too!

The space is on the small, cozy side, and it fits the Haebangchon vibe perfectly~

This time, four friends and I headed to Heui for another girls’ night~ It was already our second visit with this exact group!

We had just finished a bridal shower photo shoot and were very, very hungry~🫠 All we could think about was eating something delicious.

What is the atmosphere like at Heui Huam?

First of all, Heui means “a space for sharing joy and sorrow.” I’m guessing they went with Heui because “hee-hee” would be too hard to pronounce! There was a neon sign on the wall with that meaning, but rather than feeling flashy, it gave off a quiet, softly sentimental mood 🌿

The dining room had tables for two and four, as well as bar seating.

We took a four-person table! It was immediately set with dishes in striking, ornate patterns.

While we were studying the menu for ages, they brought out pretzel snacks and tangy pickles as the complimentary starter.

It was broadly divided into pasta, Italian mussel soup, other dishes, and sides.

As you’d expect from a Western-style bar, there was a wide selection of alcohol too. You can see the soju selection is a little special, right?

Beer, highballs, and wine are all available, so you can choose whatever suits your taste.

We ordered four dishes in total ✨

Heui Pasta, ₩18,000. First up, the signature Heui Pasta lets you enjoy the gentle spice and creaminess of its rosé base.

Every time I come to Heui, this pasta is my default order~!

I love how rich and thick it is, loaded with ingredients like bacon and onion... 💛

Uniquely, they serve it with soft breakfast rolls. It feels like almost 1.7 portions, so it’s a great-value pasta you can enjoy a little like pane pasta too 🍝

Pile on plenty of cream sauce and bacon, then dig in properly—yum yum yum~

Egg in Hell with baguette

Egg in Hell, ₩20,000. After countless visits, this was my first time trying Egg in Hell... me 🙋 I hope anyone reading this doesn’t make the same mistake as I did.. Not ordering it until now was a mistake 😢

Also called eggs in hell, this dish cooks eggs in a red tomato sauce and is said to taste similar to shakshuka, a Middle Eastern dish. The name Egg in Hell is so cute because it looks like eggs from hell~

Heui’s Egg in Hell was really loaded with egg, tomato, cheese, and more. Personally, it felt like eating a spicy tomato chicken stew. The spice was exactly the kind of gentle heat anyone can enjoy. I loved that it wasn’t just rich or one-note—it was just right.

And the highlight is enjoying it with this baguette!

Eating it with baguette was the real deal.. ✨ I think I had four pieces all by myself.. Sorry, friends… From now on, Egg in Hell is a default order 🔥

Rich shrimp oil pasta

🦐 Shrimp oil pasta, ₩18,000. As expected, even the shrimp oil pasta had Heui’s own style. I was expecting something like aglio e olio-style pasta, so I was so intrigued by the different look!

It isn’t simply an oily pasta. It has a slight richness to it—a somewhat thick-style oil pasta.

There were loads of plump, bouncy shrimp too 🦐💛 I really loved that juicy, firm bite.

It stood out for being nuttier and cleaner-tasting than the earlier dishes, which I loved. The balance was just so good, you know?

Gochujang chicken stir-fry with perilla leaves

Gochujang chicken stir-fry, ₩20,000 🔥 You have to order this. I insist :) This boneless gochujang chicken stir-fry is packed with spicy-salty flavor and smoky wok aroma ㅠ There are soy sauce and gochujang options, but I absolutely, definitely recommend the gochujang one!!

That’s how impressive it was... all four women unanimously loved it.

The perilla leaves were especially the key. Since it’s a somewhat seasoned dish, of course it’s great with drinks, but you know how you can get tired of something if you keep eating it?

When that happens, adding a perilla leaf softens the spice a little, and its distinctive nutty, pungent aroma makes the flavor more varied.

Heui was so deliciously enjoyed alongside the whirlwind chatter of girls catching up after a long time!

If you’re planning a date in Huam-dong or Haebangchon, make sure to visit Heui Huam 🔥 You might just become a repeat regular too~ And I highly, highly recommend it as a second stop for a blind date!!
