Daegu Korean restaurant with dad at 5pm reopening: Banwoldang
In short
Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a fire-grilled short rib and squid stir-fry restaurant in an alley off Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu. Visiting right at the 5pm reopening with her dad, the writer ordered two servings of buja (father-son) grilled short rib, two servings of spicy fire-grilled squid stir-fry, cheonggukjang stew, and drinks — the thick-cut meat turned out surprisingly tender, not chewy. With a free lettuce-wrap self-bar, both the meat and the squid stir-fry kept getting wrapped and eaten one after another.

Finding Bujasikdang from Banwoldang Station

▶ Address: 1st floor, 13-13 Gwandeokjeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, South Korea, Banwoldang Bujasikdang
It's right behind the NongHyup building, just in front of Exit 21 of Banwoldang Station. Down a small alley (between NongHyup and Bandi Iuvore — not the fire-road hill side). You can apparently walk straight into this alley haha. The restaurant is right there as soon as you come out of the alley!!
I came via the Gwandeokjeong / Namsan Church alley from Exit 19 of Banwoldang Station~~!
If you're driving, you should come the way above^^ There are 3-4 parking spots in front of the restaurant~~~! I timed my arrival right when the break time ended!! And people were already waiting from that moment!!
The vibe at the entrance

There's a parking notice posted on the door! 3 parking spots in front of the restaurant! If full, use the paid lot!! PS. There are several signed papers stuck on the entrance wall haha.
Inside the restaurant and the waiting line

We went in almost exactly on time, and there were... so many people haha. If you come later, you'll have to wait... haha.
Menu board and kiosk ordering at Banwoldang Bujasikdang

There's a big menu board on the wall!! (Minimum 2 servings) Buja grilled short rib / fire-grilled squid stir-fry (regular/spicy) / fire-grilled pork stir-fry (regular/spicy) / squid-pork combo stir-fry * rice sold separately * cheonggukjang stew included / cheonggukjang stew & bibimbap * wrap vegetable self-bar included

You order through the kiosk! They've also opened a Suseong branch, so you can now get Bujasikdang's menu items in Suseong-gu too~~
Make sure to order extra rice!! I eat a lot of rice relative to side dishes, and the portion was generous!!
Here's the alcohol and drinks! Dad's pick: Jinro soju! My pick: Bullo makgeolli (rice wine)~
Takeout and meal kits

You can also get takeout! Order whatever menu you want and eat it at home~~
Grilled short rib, pork stir-fry, squid stir-fry, cheonggukjang stew, fried burdock root. PS. I wanted to buy the fried burdock root but they were out ㅜㅜ
You can also buy meal kits! Plus one free canned drink for a Naver receipt review!!
Basic side dishes and the wrap self-bar

These are the basic side dishes!! Bean sprouts, seaweed stem, and more. My grandmother loves the fried burdock root too but they were out ㅜㅜ Next time~~~

The wraps are free~~! You just take as much lettuce as you want from the self-bar, along with peppers and ssamjang (wrap sauce)!

Such a hearty spread haha. Waiting for the main dishes now haha.
The main dishes and the drink spread

Finally here! Two servings of grilled short rib, two servings of spicy fire-grilled squid stir-fry, cheonggukjang stew, Bullo makgeolli, and Jinro.
Buja grilled short rib, 2 servings

This is the buja grilled short rib (2 servings)~~! I personally don't like chewy meat — I was worried since the pieces were so thick, but oh, it was completely tender haha.
The pieces of meat are thick and hefty haha. Dad cuts up the big pieces for us haha.
Try the meat as is first! But definitely wrap it in lettuce too haha.

If you ask for garlic, they'll give you garlic haha. PS. The wraps and the meat keep pulling you back in!!!
The cheonggukjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew) that comes with it!! It goes perfectly with the meat haha. So tasty~~~!!
Spicy fire-grilled squid stir-fry, 2 servings

Spicy fire-grilled squid stir-fry, 2 servings! I wanted to try the squid-pork combo too, but I'll have to save that for next time ㅠㅠ
Let me pick up a piece of squid haha.
Wrap the squid stir-fry with wrap vegetables too!!! Add in some pickled onion! The lettuce is so, so fresh haha. My hand kept reaching for more~~~
Arrived at 5pm, watched the crowd turn over once
Right at 5pm when break time ended~~~ maybe because we came in a bit late, while we were eating the customers turned over once haha!! Even the room inside was full haha. It was probably around 5:50 or 6pm!
We wiped clean the meat and the stew too haha and left feeling completely full! The place was packed!! Groups, families, young customers — all kinds haha. Really popular~~!!
If you want to eat your fill of grilled meat and fire-grilled squid stir-fry~~! Definitely pay a visit — you won't regret it^^
