Cheonan BBQ spot with minari frozen pork belly: Sampyeong Sikdang
In short
Sampyeong Sikdang Cheonan Sinbu Branch is a retro frozen pork belly (naengsam) restaurant in the Sinbu-dong food alley by Cheonan Terminal. The order was two servings of frozen pork belly at 11,500 won each, one serving of flower-cut frozen pork belly and doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice) at 5,900 won, eaten with minari on top and a standout scallion salad, then finished with kimchi fried in the pork fat and piled onto the rice. With its doors-open outdoor-tent mood and pet-friendly tables, Sampyeong Sikdang works just as well as a Sinbu-dong date spot.

Today I left my Ondo friend* behind and went with a different friend to Sampyeong Sikdang, a Cheonan Terminal favorite, to properly demolish some frozen pork belly (naengsam)!

Outdoor-tent mood with the doors open, and a Sinbu-dong date spot too
In the evening the weather cooled down, so they kept the doors open and the breeze drifted in, giving it that outdoor pojangmacha (street tent) feel — I loved it☁️ The interior was bigger than I expected, so there were plenty of families of four and groups of 7–8 too!

This retro atmosphere suits a frozen-pork-belly place so perfectly hip. It would also make a really great Sinbu-dong date course💓 Boss, next time can I come in and say hi and maybe get a little something extra (?) haha The owner and staff were all incredibly kind✨

What we ordered at Sampyeong Sikdang: frozen pork belly, flower-cut belly, doenjang sulbap
Blinded by hunger (I totally missed the set menus🥹!!!), we ordered two servings of frozen pork belly + one serving of flower-cut frozen pork belly + doenjang sullbap. Next time I'll get the 2–3 person set menu so I can also try the dirty egg steamer🔥🔥🔥

The side dish spread was put together perfectly for frozen pork belly💓 Even the table setting had that full-on retro feel, like visiting grandma's house〰️〰️

The scallion salad that stole the meal
And,,, guys this scallion salad (pajeori),,,, it was truly the scallion salad of my life,,, whatever that sauce was,,, it was seriously so good!!!!! Total kick kick ✨

Frozen pork belly with minari, grilled the way the staff showed us
It had been so long since I'd had frozen pork belly that I was genuinely giddy💓 Pork belly piled high with minari (water celery) — I was so happy.
When the staff member first put the meat and minari on the grill, they sprinkled on pepper and kindly walked us through exactly how to eat it — I really appreciated that👍🏻

The flower-cut pork belly comes in a round coil, so on top of it we piled grilled minari, grilled kimchi, and garlic ssamjang for one wrap, one bite!!!!! Minari flower pork belly, you are

Alright~ next up, the regular frozen pork belly~✨ It doesn't take long to grill, so we could just keep eating nonstop, which made me so happy🤤

Lay a well-grilled piece of frozen pork belly on a bed of fresh lettuce and perilla leaves, top it with the scallion salad kick, cheongyang chili, garlic, wasabi, and dried radish strips — how good could that possibly be? (Extremely.)
Doenjang sulbap at 5,900 won, finished with pan-fried kimchi on top
There's always a moment mid-meal when you start craving carbs, and the owner must sense that timing perfectly, because the doenjang sullbap (soy paste rice) arrives with impeccable sense of timing〰️💖

Maybe it's because the base is a rich doenjang and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste) simmered fresh every day, but this doenjang sullbap was seriously deep and delicious🧡 You can see the tofu and mushrooms piled in generously too🥹🥹
At the end, we fried up the leftover kimchi in the oil left from grilling the pork belly and piled it on top of the doenjang sullbap — even the finishing move tasted insane💖

Hahahahahaha, wipe your mouth clean with the tissue hanging from the ceiling and that's it — a delicious dinner, done! (That tissue hanging up there is kind of a nifty little gadget~?)

They also had candy ready as a palate cleanser🍬💓 I'm still not totally sure what kind it is these days, but it's small and hard and tasty enough that I'd want to buy some separately haha
Any.way. If you're looking for frozen pork belly near Cheonan Terminal, you won't regret Sampyeong Sikdang! Give this naengsam favorite with the breeze drifting through a try~💖💖💖
