What the 29,900 won eel buffet includes
Songnim Bok Jangeo is an all-you-can-eat spot serving unlimited domestic Japanica freshwater eel. For ₩29,900 plus a ₩3,000 table charge, you can eat unlimited eel, pork belly, duck neck meat, and banchan — it's a place I visit often :) Eel is especially good for building up your stamina, right? ( ˶'ᵕ'˶ )
Besides the all-you-can-eat option, there are meal dishes too — eel soup, yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), buckwheat noodles, and spicy ramyeon — so it's also a good spot to swing by for a simple lunch.

Just a note — takeout is also available at an affordable price, and if you take part in the Naver receipt review event or sign up for Naver notifications, you get a free bottle of bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) wine. Eel with bokbunja is the best combo 👍

What is on the self-serve bar at Songnim Bok?
Here are the three meats included in the all-you-can-eat — freshwater eel, pork belly, and duck neck meat — plus the side dishes. All of it can be grabbed from the self-serve bar, which made things really convenient 🫶

The self-serve corner was kept really clean, and besides the basics there were also lettuce wraps, salt, and sesame oil available, so just take as much as you need. I grabbed some salt for dipping the pork belly and some leafy greens for wraps.

Definitely read up on how to eat the eel properly ✨️ The 7 benefits of freshwater eel — anti-aging, boosting weakened constitutions, easing stomach pain, restoring energy — all of them were exactly what I needed hahaha

How to grill fresh eel, and how hot the grill gets
For fresh eel, first lay it skin-side down, and once it's browned nicely, flip it over. Once it's cooked through a bit, cut off the fins with scissors, then stand it on its side to grill the edges — and that's it :)

The heat was stronger than I expected, so it cooked quickly 👀✨️ That let me eat quickly, and grilling eel in the middle while grilling pork belly or duck neck on the sides meant I could keep eating without a break!

The eel browning up nicely 😋 It's so oily that grilling it almost looks like frying it, which made it look even more delicious and got me even more excited!

Best combinations to eat the eel with
Once the eel is grilled well, you can eat it with eel sauce and ginger, salt, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), or myeongi-namul (mountain garlic leaves). Since the eel itself is a good-quality domestic Japanica variety, it tasted amazing no matter how I ate it 💗 Personally, I loved it dipped in just salt :)

Pork belly and duck neck meat quality
Gotta enjoy the pork belly and duck neck meat included in the three all-you-can-eat meats too~ Beyond the star eel, the pork belly and duck neck meat were also really good quality! The pork belly especially had just the right ratio of meat to fat, which made it delicious. The duck neck meat was nicely chewy too :)
After going through the all-you-can-eat spread, I finished off with eel and pork belly. You can see both the eel and pork belly are good quality~

Being able to eat as much eel tail as I wanted — supposedly the best part for restoring energy — was the best 🥰 It was grilled crispy and delicious~
