I was looking for a place to eat meat around Gwangalli and this time I visited Donbegi Gwang-an Branch.

Unlike your typical pork restaurant, Donbegi's main draw is pork aged for 480 hours.

Introduction to Donbegi Gwang-an Branch's 480-hour aged pork

They even have cuts like French rack and shoulder rack that you don't usually see at a regular pork place, so it's worth a visit if you want something a bit different.

The main dish I ordered this time was the 480-hour aged French rack.

Table set with the French rack order

It's ₩10,000 per 100g, and it's sold starting from 400g.

French rack on the grill

They say it's a dish where the cut is trimmed so you can taste five different parts at once.

French rack trimmed into five different cuts

It definitely looked different from your usual samgyeopsal (pork belly) or mokssal (pork neck) from the get-go.

True to being aged meat, the texture was tender overall so it wasn't heavy to eat, and there was a fun contrast between the lean and fatty parts unique to French rack.

The staff grill the meat for you, which was nice since I didn't have to keep watching the grill myself.

Adding grilled vegetables to the French rack

I like mixing in grilled vegetables between bites of meat rather than eating just meat the whole time, so I added those too.

Having a bite of aged pork followed by grilled vegetables made the meal feel a little lighter. There were also several sauces and accompaniments, so I could mix and match according to taste instead of sticking to one way of eating.

Steamed egg custard, served hot

The warm egg custard we added

Egg custard is basically something I always order at a meat restaurant haha. I added one here at Donbegi Gwang-an Branch too.

Having warm egg custard on the table was great for a spoonful here and there between bites of meat. It's an especially good side dish to share around if you're dining with several people, either before the meat arrives or between rounds.

Donbegi's signature Geumsa-dong cold kimchi kalguksu, 7,000 won

Donbegi's signature Geumsa-dong cold kimchi kalguksu

After eating a fair amount of meat, I ordered Donbegi's own in-house creation, Geumsa-dong cold kimchi kalguksu (kimchi and hand-cut noodle soup). It's ₩7,000. Quite a distinctive name for a dish.

Cold kimchi kalguksu with chilled kimchi broth

It's kalguksu noodles served in a cold, tangy kimchi broth, which made for a good palate cleanser after the meat. Most meat restaurants serve mul-naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon, but cold kimchi kalguksu is worth trying if you want a different kind of finish. It paired especially well after eating rich, fatty meat, since the cool broth was a nice contrast.

What else is on the menu at Donbegi Gwang-an Branch?

Besides French rack, Donbegi also sells 480-hour aged pork in cuts like shoulder rack, five-layer pork belly, and pork neck.

Menu lineup of aged pork by cut

There are also set combinations like the couple platter or family platter, so if you're visiting for the first time and wondering what to order, starting with the set menus isn't a bad idea.

There's also pork skin and egg custard as good pairings with the meat, plus a range of meal-type dishes, so it's a setup that makes it easy to combine a full meal with drinks in one sitting.

Is Donbegi a good spot for a gathering in Gwangalli?

Overall, Donbegi Gwang-an Branch stands out for letting you try somewhat special cuts like aged pork and French rack, plus its rooms and group seating make it good for family outings, work dinners, or gatherings.
