Hinoki-steamed dishes and shabu-shabu on Hwajeong Station's Rodeo Street
I heard there was a great all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu spot near Hwajeong Station in Ilsan, so I went! It was Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch (편백회관 일산화정점). 💜 Come out of Exit 2 at Hwajeong Station and head into Rodeo Street—you'll find it on the third floor of the Jjang Arcade building. ^^

There are plenty of big shabu-shabu buffets where even the meat is unlimited, but they easily cost well over ₩25,000, and I always feel like I don't eat enough to make them worth it. So they're not really my favorite. 🥲

But I heard that Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch offered all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu at a very reasonable, great-value price, so I went straight away.
As soon as I walked in, the upscale interior and spacious, clean dining room caught my eye. The tables at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch were nicely spaced out too, so it seemed perfect for group gatherings, all kinds of get-togethers, or a family meal. 👍
Even on the day we went, families had come for an opening-time run, and grandmothers who looked to be in their sixties and seventies were having a get-together. You know how discerning our moms' tastes can be, right?? Haha. But this is the kind of place where you can confidently bring parents with picky tastes!!! Isn't that what a truly great restaurant is? Haha.

Ordering by kiosk and the wait for hinoki steaming
You can order on the kiosk at your table, and the options ranged from ₩17,900 to ₩19,900 depending on the selection. 😄

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch's signature dishes are hinoki-steamed dishes and shabu-shabu. 💚 The hinoki-steamed dish takes about 10 minutes, so we strategically checked out the salad bar while we waited!! Haha.

A salad bar with shabu-shabu ingredients and snack foods
The salad bar had all kinds of fresh ingredients for shabu-shabu. 👍 There were vegetables such as mung bean sprouts, bok choy, and napa cabbage, plus dumplings, tofu skin, sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes), corn noodles, and more. ^^

What I liked even more was that, beyond shabu-shabu ingredients, they had rice-cake tteokbokki with fish cake—which I really love—tomato spaghetti, fries, fried dumplings, and soup.
There were porridge ingredients to have after shabu-shabu and little morning rolls too. ❤️ And then, the highlight of Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
High-quality beef for shabu-shabu! 🐂 Both beef chuck roll and thin-sliced beef brisket were all-you-can-eat. ❤️ That was such great news for meat lovers. Haha.
Steamed beef brisket with three sauces
Unboxing the perfectly steamed hinoki dish!!! Ta-da! Tender thin-sliced beef brisket was waiting in a pretty, neat row. ❤️ I calmed my excited heart and picked up the ✔️ ponzu sauce, ✔️ chili sauce, and ✔️ peanut sauce set out at one side of the table.

I filled up little dishes with my favorites and dipped the soft, beautifully cooked steamed dish in them—wow 👍, it was seriously delicious. ❤️ The steamed thin-sliced brisket over its blanket of mung bean sprouts was purely nutty and flavorful, with no off smell at all, and so tender to chew! 👍😄

I made sure to eat the shrimp and kabocha squash too, and wrapped everything in Vietnamese spring rolls. ❤️ It was sooo delicious; I was happy. 😄❤️ After clearing one whole tray of hinoki-steamed food, we asked them to prepare the shabu-shabu. Haha.
Half doenjang chicken-noodle and half mala-broth shabu-shabu
We ordered the shabu-shabu half and half: one side doenjang (fermented soybean paste) chicken-noodle broth, the other mala broth. I loved that I could even have malatang at a shabu-shabu restaurant. Haha. The mala broth arrived as a white broth base, and you stirred in the prepared mala sauce yourself.

I mixed some of the prepared mala sauce into the peanut sauce to customize a mala-peanut sauce, and it was so good. A little pro tip ❤️ My mom, who came with me, told me it would be delicious this way—I'm so glad I went with a mom who really knows food. 😁👍

As soon as the ingredients cooked, I quickly wrapped them in a Vietnamese spring roll and popped it into my mouth. It was bursting with juices ✨️, with the texture of cooked vegetables and fresh sprouts all coming together—a healthy, restorative taste.

The weather has been chilly lately because of the seasonal change, and I had been feeling shivery and not quite myself, but this felt like a restorative meal for the first time in a while. 💜

The 100-minute limit and visit information
The time limit at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch is 100 minutes! Haha. It felt a little tight at first, but before I knew it, I was full. 😄 Maybe because we ate such wholesome ingredients at this Hwajeong shabu-shabu restaurant, I didn't feel overly stuffed and had a really pleasant meal. 😁❤️

Next time, I want to come back with my kids and husband. I think my daughter and son, who love malatang, would really enjoy it too. 👍 If only we had a place like this in our neighborhood, I would have gone every day. Haha. Now I have a reason to come to Hwajeong-dong often. 😁
