A jokbal/bossam spot worth a weekend trip — Cheongdam Jokbal. Our favorite jokbal place near Sanghyeon Station closed down a while back and I hadn't been able to get my jokbal fix since, but I finally found a place worth going to, so I wanted to share it!!

Terrace seats and round tables with a square frame

Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch also has terrace seating! With weather like this these days, eating outside must feel great~~

The tables were really unusual — a square frame built into the round table so you can set the bossam/jokbal on top nicely (which also makes the photos look even more loaded up!!)

Choosing a menu: how spicy is the fire-grilled jokbal?

The menu at Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch let us choose between jokbal and bossam, and that day we ordered set menu 1 large.

At first we wanted to try the fire-grilled spicy jokbal, but the staff warned us it's extremely spicy

They told us to try a dab of the sauce on the table they'd already set, and my lips went numb after one dip🥵 (yep... that's apparently how spicy it is..) I'd recommend it to anyone who says even buldak isn't spicy for them!! Big thanks to the staff member who saved us from disaster,,,

There was also a receipt review event, so I said I'd join! (Probably a must if you're ordering the fire-grilled spicy jokbal)

"Same-day delivery," "100% domestic fresh trotters," "best taste" — these three keywords really caught my eye?! I felt super confident even before eating haha

Is set menu 1 in large enough for three people?

Set menu 1 large (warm jokbal + BBQ seasoned grilled jokbal) arrived at Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch. For 3 people, medium would've been a bit short, so I think ordering large was a great call~!

The jokbal we ordered arrived!! Wait a second... what's with this abundance..? The visual is insane ㅜ

It's not that I crave jokbal, it's that jokbal is the craveable one.

Do you all agree?!?! I think this line applies perfectly to jokbal, but let's take a look at this aggressive composition first ^^

What the warm jokbal tastes and feels like

From the moment I picked it up with chopsticks, it felt suspiciously soft, and when I ate it, it just disappeared without any chewing needed..?? The signature chewy texture of jokbal was still there, but being warm made it feel even more tender.

BBQ-seasoned grilled jokbal: sweet and salty in every bite

And then the BBQ seasoned grilled jokbal!! This one has a sweet-and-salty vibe, and it was great to switch to it whenever the regular jokbal got a bit much?haha Savory-chewy → BBQ seasoned flavor, it was fun going back and forth between the two

Free makguksu, lettuce wraps and the review-event rice ball

Right when things started feeling a little heavy, Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch brought out complimentary makguksu (buckwheat noodles) haha (nice timing) It would've been even better if the noodles were a touch colder, but the sauce flavor was great so it was plenty delicious!!

Mix it, mix it

My mom loves eating wraps, so she piled up all kinds of things — garlic, ssamjang, salted shrimp, dried radish, you name it

We got the rice ball earlier for joining the review event, and since I'm a carb addict who doesn't feel full on protein alone(?), I have to have rice

Eating just rice and jokbal gets a little choking, so we had some bean sprout soup in between too

Final verdict: which jokbal size to order by headcount

If you're looking for jokbal near Sanghyeon Station in Gwanggyo, I highly recommend Cheongdam Jokbal⭐ I always used to just order the same plain jokbal, but this time we tried the BBQ seasoned option alongside it, and since the two menus taste so different, it was nice to get variety instead of ordering just one!! Above all, being able to eat same-day boiled jokbal while it's still warm, and the fact that they use 100% domestic fresh trotters, feel like the biggest strengths~
