Looking for a lamb restaurant in Gwanggyo? I love lamb so much that I actually keep a separate list of Gwanggyo lamb rib spots. This time I checked out Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch, which had been on my radar.
I went in expecting chilled aged lamb ribs grilled over charcoal, and to cut to the chase — it exceeded my expectations.
Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon, in three lines
- The special mixed set, three cuts at once — shoulder rack, lamb sirloin, and seasoned mini lamb ribs all in one order, and each cut was different enough in texture and flavor that I never got tired of eating.
- Chilled aging means zero gamey smell — the lamb is young Australian lamb under a year old, air-imported chilled rather than frozen, and I really could barely detect any of that typical lamb smell, so even lamb first-timers should be able to enjoy it without worry.
- Every table partitioned, a private space perfect for a date — every table had its own partition so I could talk without worrying about neighboring tables, and staff grilled everything for us so we could just focus on eating.
If you're looking for a lamb rib restaurant in Gwanggyo, Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch is a safe bet whether it's a date or a work dinner.

It's about 150 meters from Exit 2 of Sanghyeon Station on the Sinbundang Line, so a 3-minute walk gets you there. Walk straight out of the exit and turn left — the building is right there on the ground floor, easy to find.
The atmosphere — partitioned tables and an aging fridge

The interior was much bigger than I expected, and every table was divided by partitions, so we could eat comfortably in our own private space.

The tables were also spaced generously apart, so we never had to worry about the next table over — a vibe that works well for both group dinners and dates.

There are also terrace seats, with a small awning right beside them, which seemed like it would work well for group dinners too.

I also noticed an aging fridge tucked to one side. Being able to see the lamb actually aging felt fitting for a premium chilled lamb rib specialist, and it built trust.
Menu and the special mixed set price
The menu had everything from lamb cuts like shoulder rack, French rack, lamb sirloin, and seasoned mini lamb ribs, to Chinese dishes like jisamseon and eohyang-gaji (spicy braised eggplant). Since we wanted to try several cuts at once, we ordered the special mixed set.

From side dishes to charcoal-grilled lamb

The banchan (side dishes) came out first, neatly arranged as shown above. Personally, the cabbage was really good.

Not long after, the prepped lamb ribs came out, and staff grilled them for us directly over the charcoal.

For the shoulder rack, they deboned the meat first, then grilled the bones a bit longer and set them aside separately.

They even wrapped the shoulder rack bones in tissue in case they were hot to the touch — that kind of attentiveness stood out.
Comparing shoulder rack, lamb sirloin, and seasoned mini lamb ribs

I started with the shoulder rack, dipping it in just salt at first. The juices were really rich and there was zero gamey smell, so I think even people who usually struggle with lamb could eat this comfortably. Wrapped in myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves) it went down even more cleanly, and with a touch of wasabi on top I kept reaching for more without ever feeling greasy.

The lamb sirloin had more lean meat than the shoulder rack, so it was lighter, but the more I chewed, the more a nutty flavor came through — I personally liked this one quite a lot too.

Last up was the seasoned mini lamb ribs, coated in a sweet sauce — a completely different appeal from the previous two cuts.

The seasoning wasn't overpowering and didn't mask the meat's flavor, so rotating between the three cuts kept feeling fresh each time.

When we paid at the end, they gave each of us an ice cream, which let us leave on a happy note.
In summary
As someone who loves lamb, this place nailed all three things I look for: chilled aging with no gamey smell, and private, partitioned spaces. If you're looking for a lamb rib or lamb skewer spot in Gwanggyo, Suwon, or working out a date course in Sanghyeon-dong, I'd recommend Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch.
