What comes with the dad's set for two

The dad's set for two comes with 1 grilled fish, 1 braised fish, and 1 stew. Side dishes include braised fish cake, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), seasoned seaweed, seasoned garlic stems, and seasoned bean sprouts, plus sauce — all self-serve from the bar.

For the grilled fish I chose cutlassfish over mackerel, flounder, and croaker; for the braised fish I chose mackerel over cutlassfish; and for the stew I chose kimchi jjigae over cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and sundubu (soft tofu stew).

Grilled cutlassfish: a whole fish per plate

The grilled cutlassfish in the dad's set came out as a whole, nicely browned fish on a fish-shaped plate — so cute. It included everything from the long cuts to the piece with roe.

Starting from the edge, the bones came out cleanly with barely any effort.

Cutlassfish flesh cleanly deboned

It was so tender it disappeared the moment I ate it, with a subtle smoky char flavor that was delicious.

A tender piece of grilled cutlassfish

Since a whole fish came out, I could pile it on a spoon and eat it in one big bite.

Grilled fish is the ultimate rice thief, right? The set comes with up to two bowls of rice.

Grilled cutlassfish eaten with a bowl of rice

Eating it with rice was, as expected, amazing — it had been a while since I'd had grilled cutlassfish, so it tasted even better.

A cut of cutlassfish containing roe

I liked getting to try different parts, even the roe, and eating good-quality cutlassfish at such a reasonable price put me in a great mood.

Braised mackerel: mild enough for kids

The braised mackerel at Naneun Jigeum Saengseoni Meokgo Sipda comes out as about half a fish, braised together with radish. I went back and forth between cutlassfish and mackerel, and chose mackerel — glad I did, since it was so hearty.

Braised mackerel simmered with radish

The tender, plump flesh went well with the braising sauce, which tasted a bit like tteokbokki broth — delicious.

It wasn't spicy or sharp, so I think kids could eat it too.

Plump flesh of braised mackerel

It had also been a while since I'd had mackerel, and its plump texture had a different charm from the cutlassfish — delicious.

Radish soaked in braising sauce

The radish in a braised dish is the real star, right? No fishy taste at all — just sweet and delicious.

It went well with the mackerel too, the seasoning wasn't salty and the balance was just right, and the green onion and onion had soaked up the sauce so well — so tasty.

Braised mackerel eaten together with rice

Of course I had to eat it with rice too — great, as always.

Kimchi jjigae with the set

For the stew I chose kimchi jjigae, which came loaded with meat, tofu, and kimchi. It arrived bubbling hot, straight off the stove, with a delicious smell wafting up.

The meat was thinly sliced, which went well with the kimchi, and it had a slightly spicy kick that was delicious.

Kimchi jjigae with meat and kimchi

It was simmered just a bit longer, which I liked even more, and I could taste a slight sweetness too.

A bowl of kimchi jjigae with hearty tofu

The tofu was hearty and delicious too, so I finished it all. My companion enjoyed it so much they kept eating.

This local-recommended spot serves not just grilled fish but braised fish, stew, and other everyday Korean dishes at an affordable, great-value price. It was a delicious meal at Naneun Jigeum Saengseoni Meokgo Sipda, a restaurant near Jeju Airport :)
