500-year-old well and window seats at Jwasuyeong Baguette Burger

When you're traveling around Yeosu, eating a proper meal at a good restaurant is great, but sometimes you just want a simple snack to grab in between stops. This time, while touring Yi Sun-sin Square and Jinnamgwan Pavilion, I stopped by Jwasuyeong Baguette Burger.

Beyond the baguette burgers, you can also try Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort ice cream and ddungcaron (a thick, oversized macaron), so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for something a little different to snack on in Yeosu.

A clean, comfortable spot to rest for a bit

Jwasuyeong Baguette Burger opened back in 2016 and has been running in the same area ever since. It apparently started when the owner tried an existing baguette burger and thought, "What if I made this a bit better?" — and after two rounds of expansion and relocation, it landed at its current spot. Walking in, the interior was bigger and cleaner than I expected.

There were plenty of tables, so it was easy to sit down for a quick bite, and baby chairs were also available, making it look family-friendly too.

I also liked that if you sit by the window, you can look straight out at Jinnamgwan Pavilion and the surrounding scenery.

Looking at the menu, besides the baguette burgers there was also mugwort ice cream, Jwasuyeong ddungcaron, and various other items.

What I tried was the Jwasuyeong baguette burger,

along with the Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort ice cream and the Jwasuyeong ddungcaron — three items in total.

Of course, the first thing I tried was the signature baguette burger!

Inside the baguette was a generous amount of meat, fresh vegetables, and the shop's own sauce, topped with cheongyang chili pepper. Even just from the look of it, the filling seemed pretty substantial — more like a hearty meal than a light snack.

Taking a bite, the crisp texture of the baguette paired really well with the filling, and the subtle heat of the cheongyang chili kept it from feeling too heavy.

How to reheat it the next day if you take it to go

The crispy texture comes through best right when you get the baguette burger, but if you take it home and eat it the next day, they recommend refrigerating it and reheating it briefly in a pan or an air fryer. My daughter and I reheated ours the next day and it made a nice, filling breakfast. It seemed like a great option for when you're hungry while traveling but still want something substantial enough to count as a real meal.

Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort ice cream, full of Yeosu flavor

Along with the baguette burger, I also tried the Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort ice cream. I was curious about it since it uses Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort, a Yeosu specialty — and the vivid green color really did look the part.

The mugwort flavor wasn't overwhelming at all — more like a soft ice cream with a gentle hint of mugwort running through it. It paired nicely as a dessert after the baguette burger during a quick sit-down break while traveling.

Colorful Jwasuyeong ddungcaron

The last thing I tried was the Jwasuyeong ddungcaron.

The display case was lined with ddungcaron in all sorts of colors, which was fun just to look at.

The Jwasuyeong ddungcaron lineup had five flavors total, including one made with Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort as well as flavors kids would like — and they were genuinely huge.

The colors were bright and cheerful, and since each one comes individually, they're easy to enjoy on the go

or convenient to take with you as a snack for later.

A well inside the shop, estimated to be 500 years old

One thing that unexpectedly caught my eye at this spot was an old well inside the shop.

It's estimated to be around 500 years old, and is thought to be on the site of Bokpadang, where turtle ships were once built during the Joseon dynasty. I went in thinking of it as just a place to grab a snack, so it was pretty striking to find a piece of Yeosu's history tucked inside as well.

Overall thoughts

Trying these three items together, what struck me was how easy it is to cover both a quick snack and dessert in one place while traveling around Yeosu. The baguette burger in particular, with its crisp bread, hearty filling, and the kick of cheongyang chili, made for a satisfying snack, and the Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort ice cream was worth trying at least once for its use of a local Yeosu specialty. On top of that, the ddungcaron gave me options to pick from or pack up to go, depending on what I was in the mood for.
