When you've had a hard day and need a mood boost, there's one food that comes to mind first!!! For me, it's hands down golden-brown pork — pork belly, pork shoulder, raw beef ribs — bursting with savory juices in every bite!
I was recently taking a walk along Gwangalli Beach when I stumbled onto a restaurant hidden in an alley that had a serious aura!! It's called Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi (명승제주생고기)!! The meat-scent quality instantly won over my picky palate, so it's a legendary spot I had to come share with you all 💛

A wall covered in Jeju-direct shipping receipts
You'll be genuinely surprised the moment you walk through the door. The entire wall is packed with actual receipts proving the raw meat was brought in directly from Jeju!! 😱

You can feel the owner's serious pride, and since you can see the receipts from anywhere in the restaurant, my trust in the place shot up 200% before I'd even eaten a bite 😋🫧

The best kick among the side dishes: the kimchi
The kimchi that comes as a basic side dish is genuinely a standout, so make sure to eat it together with the meat! It's a flavor I hadn't tasted before, with great umami... it was delicious!

The moment I sat down, I was amazed at how neatly the basic side dishes were laid out! 👏 These days, a lot of BBQ places pile on too many side dishes without any of them actually being worth eating, right? But Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi sets the table with just the essential dishes that pair perfectly with the meat!
From sweet-and-tangy pickled onion to soft bracken fern pancake, savory soft tofu, crisp pickles, fresh lettuce wraps, garlic, and ssamjang — it's all set up perfectly ✨
But the real best kick here was the kimchi!! The moment I took one bite, I instantly knew this place had serious skill. It was perfectly fermented — spicy yet deeply savory, good enough to eat a whole bowl of rice with on its own.

And I added an order of Jeju bracken fern to get it ready for the grill!!

The Jeju raw meat arrives — thick raw ribs
The gorgeous-looking Jeju raw meat I'd been waiting for finally arrived!! The moment I saw the freshly cut meat's pink-red marbling and thick shape, I let out a gasp!! The careful scoring on the meat really showed the owner's dedication!

First up went the raw beef ribs, known for their outstanding tenderness, onto the hot grill! Between the sizzling sound and the savory aroma hitting my nose, I already knew it was going to be amazing 😭
The moment I picked up a well-cooked piece of raw rib, wrapped it in the spicy scallion salad, and popped it in my mouth... oh man, that was pure bliss!!

How is the meat not tough at all, just tender with each bite, and how does it have this deep, savory scent that's unique to Jeju raw meat — it was insane 👏 But the true star was actually the black pork belly!!

Black pork belly with Jeju bracken fern and myeol젓
On top of the great thickness, the ratio of lean meat to fat was perfectly balanced! The crispy, chewy skin, tender meat, and the burst of savory fat, combined with the Jeju bracken fern grilled alongside it and the myeol젓 (fermented anchovy sauce), doubled the enjoyment 💖

It was flavor so perfect I didn't envy any of those famous BBQ places you have to wait hours in line for!!
The finish: kimchi jjigae with pork belly
After devouring the meat in a whirlwind, there's one final must-order dish left — the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) loaded with pork belly, with a broth that's absolutely rich

Just the sight of the kimchi jjigae bubbling away in the earthenware pot got my appetite roaring again! It's generously packed with big, thick chunks of pork belly and tofu in the broth 😭
One spoonful of the broth was tangy and sweet, with the savory fat from the pork belly deeply infused into it, delivering incredible umami! With just this kimchi jjigae alone, I felt like I could easily polish off two bowls of rice 🍚

Honest final thoughts
I understood right away why so many regulars call this a hidden gem they want to keep to themselves ㅠ_ㅠ! It made for such a happy day, being able to enjoy such perfect, fresh, top-quality Jeju black pork and raw ribs in Gwangalli, Busan, without even having to travel to Jeju itself!
With prices having gone up so much lately, eating meat out can often feel like a real splurge, but despite being such high-quality Jeju raw meat, the prices here are so reasonable and fair, which made me love it even more 👍
Most of all, the owner and staff were so friendly throughout the whole meal that I left feeling warm-hearted and satisfied, not just full! If you're looking for a Suyeong-gu BBQ restaurant that has it all — taste, price, quality, and friendliness — don't hesitate, head straight to Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi!
