Sinsa Chinese restaurant upstairs seating and mango ice cream: Samsin

In short

Samsin Garosu-gil is a Chinese restaurant on Gangnamdae-ro 156-gil near Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul, where the ₩25,000 galbi-jjim jajangmyeon (braised short rib black bean noodles) and ₩15,000 tebanaka meat jjamppong (spicy seafood-style noodle soup) were the order. The second-floor hall has tight spacing between tables and chairs, so larger builds feel boxed in, and the galbi-jjim jajangmyeon is stir-fried with the rib bones left in the sauce, which snags the spoon. Even so, the meat-based jjamppong broth and the review-event mango and matcha ice cream made Samsin Garosu-gil feel well put together.

I'm Solmi, a food detective who shows no mercy even to my own family when it comes to taste. Today I went to inspect Samsin, a new Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station that screams "we actually spent real money opening this place" from the front door design down to the little chopsticks handed to customers.

Is it just a place putting on a show, or does it back up prices pushing past ₩20,000 with real substance — a genuine Sinsa Station favorite? Solmi's strict magnifying glass reveals only the facts. Heh heh. 😎

What Samsin Garosu-gil looks like, from the front door to the tableware

Samsin Garosu-gil is a Sinsa Chinese restaurant where everything from the entrance door design to the tableware has been carefully custom-made to match the brand. The energy hits you before you even step inside — enough to make you go "Boss, did you give your soul to the interior contractor?"

From the entrance door design, to the interior, to every single piece of tableware set on the table — you can see instantly that it's all been carefully made to match the 'Samsin' brand.

It's a whole different level from your typical Sinsa Station Chinese restaurant that just fills the place with generic off-the-shelf items. You can really feel how much effort went into the space and the details. First-impression intimidation: successfully achieved.

But! Nothing escapes Solmi's eye. One drawback surfaced in the chair and table spacing.

How tight is the second-floor hall seating at Samsin Garosu-gil?

This is the 2nd-floor hall and the table I was shown to

I was seated in the 2nd-floor hall at Samsin Garosu-gil — not sure how the 3rd floor is — but the space between table and chair wasn't all that generous. If you're petite or slim, you can just slide right in and sit down, but if you're a bit bigger or a broad-built guy, getting seated feels a little like squeezing in, so you'll need to hold your breath a bit.

Compared to the upscale interior vibe, the seating flow and how comfortable the space actually feels were a bit of a letdown. Heh heh. 😅

₩25,000 galbi-jjim jajangmyeon: rib bones in the sauce block the spoon

How the galbi-jjim jajangmyeon short rib and noodles actually taste

Samsin Garosu-gil's signature dish, galbi-jjim jajangmyeon, is ₩25,000 a bowl. Rich, well-stir-fried black bean sauce combined with tender, well-braised galbi-jjim — honestly, if this doesn't taste good, someone should be charged with a crime.

The rib meat itself had zero gamey or musty smell and was braised very tender. The sauce, too, was deep and rich enough to make you exclaim "this tastes upscale" — it clings to your mouth perfectly.

But here's Solmi's blunt truth-bomb! What's the highlight of eating rich, upscale jajangmyeon like this? Isn't it scraping up every last bit of the leftover sauce with your spoon after finishing the noodles? But here, big chunks of rib bone are stir-fried right into the sauce, so every spoonful catches on something and makes you hesitate.

I get the intent — keeping the bones in for visual impact and to justify the ₩25,000 price tag — but it definitely gets in the way of the fun of scraping up every bit. It's a slightly annoying point... but even so, on taste alone, I have to firmly say yes — it's an excellent sauce.

₩15,000 tebanaka meat jjamppong: fast to arrive, deep meat broth

The tebanaka meat jjamppong is ₩15,000, and once you order at Samsin Garosu-gil, dishes really do come out at lightning speed. Usually when food arrives that fast, an ominous feeling creeps in — "is this fast food, just reheated from something premade?"

Memories flashed through my head of some famous jjamppong places whose speed matched their lack of effort, disappointingly. But Samsin's tebanaka meat jjamppong was different. Even though the food comes out incredibly fast, the smoky wok flavor, depth of broth, and noodle texture were all remarkably polished.

The moment I took a sip of the broth, the rich, deep flavor of legendary meat-jjamppong places hit my tongue directly. This isn't a light, refreshing seafood-based broth — it's a heavy, rich meat-based broth that explodes with flavor. It shows off the essence of a hearty meat broth while still keeping the spicy, tangy edge unique to jjamppong.

On top, the tebanaka (fried chicken wings) garnish stayed properly crispy, and dipping them briefly into the rich meat jjamppong broth was seriously fun. A magical combination that makes you completely forget about dieting.

Review event dessert: mango and matcha ice cream

Samsin Garosu-gil's review event is a rich mango and matcha ice cream dessert. These days, most restaurants' "review events" amount to tossing you a can of store-bought Chilsung Cider or Coolpis for show, but this Sinsa Station favorite went all in even on the review event.

This is absolutely not cheap large-batch ice cream scooped out carelessly. The texture is dense and the flavor rich enough that it wouldn't feel out of place being sold as a paid menu item. It was a free review-event dish, but you could feel the restaurant's mindset of wanting to send customers off with a proper, clean-finishing dessert — it left me in a genuinely good mood on my way out.

Final verdict on Samsin Garosu-gil near Sinsa Station

The 2nd-floor seating is tight, so bigger-built people will feel cramped getting seated, and the bones in the ₩25,000 galbi-jjim jajangmyeon make you pause mid-scoop, which is a drawback. But with a ₩15,000 tebanaka meat jjamppong that arrives fast yet shows high polish, an upscale jajangmyeon, and a well-finished dessert of ice cream, this is a well-put-together Sinsa Station Chinese restaurant.

Enjoy a smart, savvy food life! Cheers! 💥
