It's in the alley of the Rodeo Town building in Gojan-dong — the Lotteria alley! This spot with the cute panda sticker on the door is Susan Jang (수산장), full of Japanese izakaya vibes.

We visited today because two of us shrimp lovers 🦐 wanted raw shrimp sashimi!!! There's a place in Ansan's Gojan-dong that sells raw shrimp sashimi and peels it all for you?! I'd wanted to come to Susan Jang for a while, and once I heard their seasonal raw shrimp sashimi had launched, I ran over.

There are tables in the back, 2-person tables running along the walkway, and a row of 4-person dodgy seats.

Origin labeling board at Susan Jang

Looking at the origin labels, most of the seafood at Susan Jang turns out to be domestic.

The tank is packed with fresh seafood!! Seeing how clean the tank is kept, I can't even imagine how fresh the seafood must be.

Fish tank objects placed on each table

The little fish tank objects on every table have a nice touch too — great for quietly staring at fish. 🐠🐟🐠🐟 Each table also has soy sauce and vinegared gochujang for sashimi, and the soy sauce was thick and delicious!

Complimentary fried flounder and Ebisu draft beer

Susan Jang gives you fried flounder (gajami튀김) as a complimentary snack, crispy outside and moist inside, savory enough to calm an empty stomach and get your appetite going — the best kind of complimentary snack 👍🏻

With the fried flounder as our snack, we knocked back a cold glass of Yebisu draft first~ 💛 First time trying Yebisu draft, and it was sweetish with a light fizz, going down really smoothly.

A plate of fully peeled live raw shrimp sashimi

Live raw shrimp sashimi, 26,000 won and fully peeled for you

Susan Jang's live raw shrimp sashimi is ₩26,000, and they peel the fresh live shrimp all the way so it's ready to eat. I already love raw shrimp sashimi, but there aren't many places that serve it — usually I just ask for a shrimp or two to be pulled aside before they're grilled. Susan Jang peeling all of them for us was such a treat~~

✅ Why raw shrimp lovers need to visit Susan Jang!

Raw shrimp sashimi topped with just wasabi
Close-up of plump raw shrimp sashimi

First we ate them with just wasabi, to taste the shrimp's natural sweetness 💚🧡 They were plumper than at other places, so a mouthful of shrimp tasted even better!

Dipping lightly in spicy buldak sauce with a bit of wasabi on top is honey-sweet delicious 😋

What comes on the 39,000 won mini mixed seafood platter

Susan Jang's mini mixed seafood platter is ₩39,000. It gave me that feeling of finally finding a place that does a proper mixed sashimi platter!!! It's a mini platter but with a wide variety of both sashimi and seafood 🤩 seafood lovers will love it~~~ 😍

  • Red seabream loin / flounder
  • Red seabream belly / flounder fin
  • Sea bass / sea cucumber (usually scallop sashimi comes here, but it was substituted with sea cucumber since they were out)
  • Rock sea squirt / abalone

Rock sea squirt. It's naturally sweet, but only tastes good when truly fresh — and this place nails it. If you're looking for a good izakaya in Ansan's Gojan-dong, I strongly recommend Susan Jang. I wanted to bring every seafood-loving friend I know.

Sea cucumber. Fresh sea cucumber tossed in sesame oil and sesame seeds — the texture was crunchy with zero fishy smell, just full of ocean aroma 🌊 I really enjoyed it.

Eating the flounder with aged kimchi, dipped in soy sauce instead of salt and topped with wasabi — how good could that possibly be?!

Sitting at the dodgy table, we could watch dishes being prepared for other tables too 🔥

Before diving into the snacks, we got a nicely mixed somaek ready to go ✌🏻

Why the 3,000 won fried shrimp heads are worth adding

₩3,000 worth of happiness 🦐🧡 You have to try Susan Jang's fried shrimp heads! Full of buttery aroma, savory and crispy — a delicacy among delicacies 🤩

If you're looking for a good seafood restaurant or izakaya in Ansan's Gojan-dong, I recommend Susan Jang~! It's packed with a wide variety of fresh seafood, making it a great spot to catch up with a partner or friend.
