Cheonan sushi restaurant for omakase and extra salmon: Ganghan Sushi

In short

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, Chungnam. I tried the 12-piece omakase sushi set for 23,000 won, then added two pieces each of flounder and salmon with udon and croquettes on the side. Verdict: a satisfying way to sample many kinds of sushi and add your favorites.

When you want omakase sushi plus flounder and salmon

You know those days when you go out for sushi and want to try all sorts of things? I want flounder, salmon, tuna... then let's just have it all^^

Omakase sushi with added flounder and salmon

So this time, I went to Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch in Buldang-dong and properly added flounder and salmon to the 12-piece omakase sushi set, haha. For omakase, it wasn't an overwhelmingly pricey option either—₩23,000 for 12 pieces—so I was curious. Let me show you what was in it right away!

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch: location and parking

Location of Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch in Buldang-dong

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch (강한초밥 천안불당점) is on the first floor of First Plaza in Buldang-dong. The address is Unit 111, First Plaza, 67-12 Buldang 21-ro, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, South Korea. It is open from 11:00 to 22:00, with last orders at 21:30, and there is no break time. And I'm not the only one who checks parking first when going to a good restaurant in Buldang-dong, right...? Haha. This place had a separate self-service parking-registration tablet inside.

Self-service parking-registration tablet inside the restaurant

Just enter the last four digits of your license plate, look it up, and register it yourself—done! The notice said parking could be registered for up to three hours when I visited, so I didn't have to worry about parking while eating.

A cozy restaurant where solo dining feels easy

When I stepped inside, the wood-toned decor made the whole place feel neat and comfortable. Rather than a huge, bustling sushi restaurant, it had a cozy atmosphere that was nice for a meal!

The spacing between tables did not feel cramped, and there were separate seats for dining alone, so I thought, this would feel totally comfortable even if you came alone for sushi...? Haha. Each table also had a tablet, so you could browse the menu at your own pace and order right from your seat. There were more menu options than I expected, too.

Along with sushi sets and individual pieces such as flounder and salmon, there were rice bowls and even tonkatsu options, so I started agonizing over the menu again after coming here for sushi, haha. Still, my purpose today was clear. If I came for sushi, sushi it is^^

A full spread with udon, croquettes, and aged kimchi

And that was not all. Udon, croquettes, miso soup, and aged kimchi came with the sushi. Taking a sip of warm udon broth between sushi bites was nice; it had fried tofu and fish cake in it, so it was more than just a little broth and worked well as a side.

The croquettes came with cabbage too, making them great for grabbing a crispy bite in the middle of the meal. And the surprising favorite was the aged kimchi! I tried putting a little on top of white-fish sushi, and it went so well together? After eating only sushi, adding a piece of aged kimchi in between felt like a complete reset for my palate! At first I thought it was just a side dish, but it quietly worked very hard, haha.

What came in the 12-piece omakase sushi set

And finally, the 12-piece omakase sushi set arrived!

12-piece omakase sushi on a wooden plate

Oooh... first of all, seeing the sushi lined up on a long wooden plate was a visual pass, haha. Rather than getting lots of just one kind, it included familiar sushi such as flounder and salmon, then

Sushi selection including uni, abalone, and gunkan-style sushi

tuna, shrimp, sushi topped with uni (sea urchin), abalone, and gunkan-style sushi. ※ Please note that the omakase selection may vary depending on when you visit! I like getting lots of different kinds like this. There is the fun of eating one piece and wondering, what should I try next...? Haha. Since I could try one each of sushi I normally would not bother ordering individually, the 12 pieces were not boring at all. It is great for photos too... why is a plate of sushi so colorful and pretty? Haha.

Adding two pieces each of flounder and salmon

And then, the two pieces of flounder plus two pieces of salmon that I ordered from the start! They were ₩3,500 each.

Added two pieces each of flounder and salmon sushi

The omakase set has lots of different things in it, but you still have to order your favorites separately too, right? Haha.

Flounder sushi generously covering the rice
Salmon sushi topped with onion and sauce

The flounder generously covered the rice, while the salmon came topped with onion and sauce, so the two had completely different vibes. Sampling this and that with omakase, then making sure to have my favorite flounder and salmon too. I really liked this combination, haha. With 16 pieces in total, it was completely, completely satisfying to dig into by myself!!

A sushi spread where you can sample all sorts of things through omakase, then properly enjoy flounder and salmon too!

I found Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch when I was craving sushi in Buldang-dong! I had the 12-piece omakase sushi set and added two pieces each of flounder and salmon, making it exactly ₩30,000. Since I prefer tasting a wide variety of things over eating just one kind all the way through, I found the omakase selection quite fun.

A meal with omakase and individual sushi orders

It was even better to make sure I had my favorite flounder and salmon too, haha. The meal was more filling than I expected because sides like udon and croquettes came with it—good! If you are looking for a good sushi restaurant in Cheonan, keep Ganghan Sushi in Buldang-dong in mind :) If I go again... I think I will add flounder and salmon again, haha. You just cannot resist your favorites^^
