Root perm for crown volume and bangs perm at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam

Lately after drying my hair, something always felt a little off overall.

The wave was still somewhat there in my hair, but maybe because I didn't really know how to dry it properly, the curl never settled nicely — and especially at the crown, the volume would flatten out fast.

I originally went in thinking I might need to redo my whole perm, but the consultation turned out a bit different from what I expected. Long story short: I ended up getting a root perm and a bangs perm, and I was told that for the wave I already had, it was better to change my drying method rather than add another perm. I really loved this kind of consultation.

The vibe inside the salon

The interior was clean and all in white tones. I sat down and the consultation started right away!

A consultation that recommended only what was needed

What I was happiest about was the consultation. After looking at the state of my hair, she said it would be better to properly dry and revive the curl I already had rather than add a full wave perm. I'd just assumed getting more perm would make it prettier, but she said it was actually better to work with the wave already in my hair.

And for the crown volume I'd been worried about, she recommended a root perm, and for my bangs, which I always found hard to style, she recommended a bangs perm. In other words, she did a perm where it was needed and suggested a different approach where it wasn't.

This really gave me the sense that she's a root-perm specialist. Rather than pushing lots of treatments, I liked that she picked exactly what my hair needed.

Then I sat down in the chair and the treatment began.

Drinks could be ordered by QR code, so I got an iced americano! The snacks they gave me were tasty too :)

Root perm and bangs perm — how long did it take?

The bangs perm and root perm were done together! And the treatment time was pretty short, which was great. If I'd done a full wave perm it would have taken over 3 hours, and that would have been so tiring, ㅜㅜ

Reviving volume naturally with a root perm

What I was most looking forward to this time was the root perm. I was already pretty happy with the length and wave of my hair overall, but when the crown falls flat, the whole hairstyle looks flat too.

So I consulted with root-perm specialist designer Youngseo about crown volume, and she brought the volume back naturally, fitted to my hair. What I wanted wasn't over-the-top puffed-up roots but just a natural lift — and once it was finished, it was exactly the feel I wanted! With the top of my hair naturally lifted, the hairstyle around my face looked much more put together too.

I also got a bangs perm done together, since my bangs were always hard to style. Even a slightly wrong direction on my bangs meant restyling every morning, which was kind of stressful — but with the perm, it's so much easier.

With the bangs naturally settled, the hairline flowing to the sides of my face softened too. I liked that it wasn't a super strong curl but a natural feel I could easily style day to day. Designer Youngseo especially asked what style I wanted first and shaped the curl to match, which I really appreciated.

I think the most important thing at a hair salon is really the consultation. Saying what style you want matters, but it's just as important for the designer to look at the current state of your hair and judge what treatment is actually needed.

This time, at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam Main Branch, a Hannam-dong hair salon, I really felt that. She used a perm to fix the root volume, made my bangs easier to manage with a perm, and revived the wave I already had just through a different drying method instead of another perm. What I liked most was how she distinguished between what treatment was needed and what wasn't.

So the next time I'm worried about root volume again, I'm planning to go back to root-perm specialist designer Youngseo!
