Before catching a train, I stopped by a café near Suwon Station and leisurely enjoyed a Lotus croffle, a Kyoto Americano, and a peach tea. The showroom-like, calm space also made an impression.

A 5-minute walk from Suwon Station: an hour to spare before the train

Main photo from the visit to Tteum Café by Oneplay near Suwon Station

My girlfriend and I had booked a train from Suwon to Yeongdeungpo for her cousin's wedding. With about an hour left before departure, I wondered where to kill some time and ended up at Tteum Café by Oneplay Suwon Station.

Instead of the bustling main street of Suwon Station, it's located toward Timevillas Suwon and KCC Mall, so it was relatively calm and comfortable to spend time in. It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Suwon Station, so there was no burden moving there while waiting for the train.

The shop is on the 1st floor at 10 Sehwa-ro154beon-gil, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and when I checked, it was open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Last order was listed as 7:20 p.m.

You can use the building's underground parking lot, which is free for 1 hour, so driving there also seemed fine. We walked from Suwon Station since we had a train to catch, but if you're coming from the mall, the route out through the gate next to Muji at Timevillas Suwon looked closer.

When looking for a café near Suwon Station, I prefer somewhere I can catch my breath rather than the crowded feel inside the station, and this place felt good from the first impression, both in terms of distance and atmosphere.

Inside Tteum Café: a furniture showroom space and what the seats are like

Spacious, clean café interior in black and white tones

The first thing that caught my eye upon entering was the spacious, clean space. The black, white, and gray tones blended together for a modern feel, and natural light from the large windows made the whole place bright and pleasant.

Tteum Café by Oneplay Suwon Station operates alongside a furniture showroom, so the atmosphere is a bit different from a typical café. While waiting for drinks, we could browse the furniture and interior pieces displayed on the side, so the wait wasn't boring at all.

There were tables for two and four, and the spacing between seats was generous. It was comfortable sitting across from my girlfriend, chatting about the train schedule and the wedding.

It also seemed like a good fit for sitting quietly alone with coffee or opening a laptop, and a nice spot to rest during a Suwon Station date. The seats by the large windows especially looked great in photos, with natural light coming in beautifully.

Cups and glasses displayed at the counter

The pretty cups and various glasses displayed around the counter were also impressive. It was a small thing to look at that made me curious which cup the coffee would come in, and it matched the showroom feel well.

Choosing the coffee beans and dessert: what we ordered at Tteum Café

Looking at the menu, there was a wide variety of not just coffee but also ades, teas, and lattes. Being able to choose your own beans for the Americano was one of the fun points of this place.

On one side of the counter, glass jars of beans were lined up, each with its own aroma and characteristics to check out. If you love coffee, I think even choosing your menu would be enjoyable.

We ordered a Lotus croffle, a Kyoto Americano, and a peach tea. Since we were about to catch a train, we wanted something not too heavy, and one sweet dessert plus two drinks was just the right combination.

Here's what we ordered:

  • The Lotus croffle was great if you like warm desserts.
  • The Kyoto Americano was easy on the stomach when you want coffee that isn't too strong.
  • My girlfriend, who loves sweet and mellow drinks, especially liked the peach tea.
Showcase with financiers, madeleines, and slice cakes

Besides the croffle, the showcase had financiers, madeleines, and slice cakes ready. Each cake looked so pretty that I wanted to try other desserts next time.

How was the Lotus croffle? Crisp outside, chewy inside, hot and cold at once

Lotus croffle topped with vanilla ice cream

After a short wait, our order came out. The Lotus croffle came warmly toasted with vanilla ice cream on top, plus Lotus crumble and Lotus cookies added.

The nicely browned croffle gave off a subtle buttery aroma, and it was crispy outside and chewy inside. Eating the warm croffle together with the cold ice cream added a temperature contrast that made the flavor feel even richer.

I cut a piece of the croffle and put a bit of ice cream on top to try. The soft ice cream melted into the crisp layers, and the sweet, nutty flavor of Lotus added to it — a combination dessert lovers would enjoy.

Maple syrup could also be added, so you could adjust the sweetness to taste. I first tried it with just the croffle and ice cream, then added syrup little by little, and the flavor felt different each time.

The croffle came in two fairly large pieces, so it was good to share with my girlfriend. Chatting slowly while eating, I almost forgot the train time was approaching. Since it comes with ice cream on top, it's better to eat it right away before it melts.

Kyoto Americano tastes light, peach tea tastes sweet

Kyoto Americano served with a server and glass of ice

The Kyoto Americano was lighter than a typical strong Americano. I actually liked that I could drink it without feeling weighed down.

It seemed like a good match for people who prefer a lighter Americano over strong coffee, and taking a sip after the croffle naturally cleared the sweetness from my mouth.

The coffee came in a server with a separate glass of ice, so you pour it yourself. It was fun pouring the coffee little by little into the pretty glass, and the plating was pretty enough to photograph.

My girlfriend ordered the peach tea, and it was sweeter than expected, which she especially loved. It's a tea with a subtle peach aroma, so if you like sweet drinks, you'd likely enjoy it.

Sweet peach tea paired with the Lotus croffle

Paired with the Lotus croffle, the sweetness carried through nicely for a proper dessert-time combination. For those who can't drink coffee or want something a bit softer, the peach tea felt like a good choice too.
