Sokcho bakery for crisp egg tarts and financiers: Doris Patisserie
In short
Doris Patisserie is an egg tart bakery near Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. On this repeat visit the writer reserved ahead again and ate the original egg tart right after pickup, finding the shell crisp enough to shatter and the filling smooth with no eggy aftertaste. With salted caramel, pistachio, and yellow cheese financiers to browse as well, Doris Patisserie is the dessert stop worth booking every time a Sokcho trip comes up.

There's so much good food when you travel to Sokcho, right? You have to eat dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), you have to eat sundubu (soft tofu stew), and you have to check out all the food at Central Market. But there's one dessert I always make sure to grab whenever I go to Sokcho — Doris Patisserie's egg tart, haha.
At first I just thought it was a tasty egg tart, but after trying it once, whenever a trip to Sokcho comes up my first thought is now "oh, I need to book the egg tart!" lol. At this point isn't it basically a required stop on any Sokcho trip? I visited again this time, and I'll write down in detail exactly why I keep coming back :)
Where is Doris Patisserie in Sokcho?
It's located near Sokcho Central Market, so it's a great spot to pair with wandering around the market. Here's the location for reference. Since it's close to the market, it worked out well to browse market food and grab dessert on the same trip.

The exterior is pink from top to bottom, so it catches your eye even from a distance. Even first-timers can spot it right away just from seeing people lined up or carrying out boxes — "ah, this must be Doris Patisserie!" lol.

Inside Doris Patisserie

The first thing you notice when you step inside is the smell of butter. Seriously, the moment you open the door, a rich, savory scent hits you.
The smell of baking egg tarts combined with the sweet, nutty aroma of baked goods makes you feel like you need to eat something just standing there, lol. The shop itself was cute yet neatly organized.
The display case had not just egg tarts but also financiers, madeleines, and other baked goods arranged nicely. I think first-time visitors who come just for the egg tarts end up adding a few more items after seeing the display, lol. I'm the type who gets curious about everything the more I look, so it was fun just browsing.
What egg tart flavors does Doris Patisserie have?

Naturally, the first thing that catches your eye is Doris Patisserie's signature menu — the egg tart. There's original, cream cheese, walnut, and more, so you can pick based on your taste. I'm the type who likes the basics, so the original egg tart was what I was looking forward to most. Honestly, for desserts like this, if the basic version is good, you trust the rest of the menu too.

With that in mind, I'd recommend starting with the original. And besides the egg tarts, there was a good variety of financiers too. Salted caramel, pistachio, and yellow cheese each had distinctly different flavors, which seemed great for anyone looking for something to pair with coffee. Just slowly browsing the shop was pretty enjoyable if you're into desserts :)
Why it's worth reserving ahead

One thing that felt a bit special about this place — reserved pickup and walk-in sales run on completely separate schedules. I tend to reserve ahead before heading to Sokcho. It would be such a shame to go all the way there and find the egg tart I wanted sold out, ugh.
Especially during popular time slots, it's much more reassuring to check and reserve ahead if you want to secure a certain quantity. The reservation process isn't complicated — just check the date, time, menu, and quantity, then follow the instructions provided.

If you've already got your Sokcho trip dates set, I'd recommend checking reservation availability before you go (the reservation method is posted on the Naver Map place page!). Text reservations open at 6am the day before, first come first served!!
What the original egg tart tastes like

Finally, the long-awaited egg tart! I thought about wrapping it up and eating it back at my accommodation, but how could I resist after smelling that, lol. I ended up pulling one out and eating it right away. The outside was fantastic from the first look — that signature crisp, flaky texture of an egg tart was there, and biting into it gave a proper shattering crunch! But while the outside is crisp, the filling inside is completely smooth. This combination is genuinely great.

The egg filling inside was moist yet smooth and rich, with no trace of that eggy off-taste. It wasn't overly sweet either, so it's not the type you get sick of after a few bites. Maybe that's why my hand kept reaching for another piece with coffee, lol.

Especially with the crisp pastry outside and the soft filling inside coming through together, the contrast in texture made every bite fun. You might think, "why would you even bother reserving for an egg tart?" but once you try it, you'll understand, lol. I was the same way at first. But now, whenever someone says Sokcho, Doris Patisserie is the first thing that comes to mind.
A Sokcho dessert that works as a gift

Doris Patisserie's packaging is neat and clean, which seemed great for anyone looking for a dessert to bring back for people around them while traveling in Sokcho. Egg tarts especially aren't the type of dessert that splits opinions much, so they seemed good for sharing with family or friends. The pink packaging is cute too, so just carrying it around already feels like a gift :)
And if you pack several, they're also nice to have with coffee once you're back home. When you're traveling, you end up eating so many delicious things that sometimes, once you're home, you find yourself thinking about the food you had on the trip.
At times like that, pulling one out to eat brings back memories of the Sokcho trip, and that's nice too, haha. Now whenever I go to Sokcho, egg tarts are the first thing that comes to mind, so I make sure to reserve ahead.

If you're looking for a great dessert near Sokcho Central Market, or searching for a Sokcho egg tart spot worth trying, stop by Doris Patisserie :) This is a genuinely satisfying Sokcho dessert review — hope it helps with your visit!
