Pyeongtaek family-friendly café with free kids' juice: Cafe Pomun

In short

Cafe Pomun is a large wood-toned dessert café on Chudam-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, that has stayed in the same spot for more than 10 years. I looked around both floors of the main building and the annex created with furniture brand deul, then tried the chestnut matcha chocolate cake, the Earl Grey white chocolate madeleine and an iced Americano. With one free baked treat for pregnant guests and a free juice for children aged 0 to 7, Cafe Pomun works just as well for a family outing as for a dessert run.

The atmosphere around the Cafe Pomun building

The weather's been so hot and unpredictable lately that after a meal it's basically an unwritten rule to take refuge somewhere with good atmosphere and good dessert. My partner and I wandered around after eating and finally found a place that totally won me over!

Inside the main building, 10 years in the same spot

The moment I arrived at Cafe Pomun, I could feel the heavy, warm wood-tone atmosphere. There's a particular comfort and coziness that only comes from a place people have kept visiting for years, and it soaked the whole space, honestly it got me a little emotional. It's a totally different feel from those trendy, factory-style Instagram cafés everywhere these days.

Take a seat first, order after

Besides the first floor, Cafe Pomun's second floor is spacious with floor-to-ceiling windows, which gives it a great sense of openness. There's also an annex, so there are plenty of tables. Still, I'd recommend claiming a seat before ordering — people kept streaming in behind me, so seat first!!

The dessert case at Cafe Pomun

The second I saw the gorgeous desserts lined up in the display case, my self-control just snapped haha. Flashbacks to the rough days of carb detox at the Korean medicine clinic after eating bread twice a day on my last vacation flickered through my mind, but really, who could walk past this view? Pyeongtaek café dessert visuals: pass, big time!!

Coffee and drinks menu

Since I was planning on dessert, I went straight for an Americano, but watching what other people ordered, the signature coffees looked seriously impressive. Next time I want to try the latte or the Einspänner haha.

The annex Cafe Pomun built with furniture brand deul

The second floor was getting full, so we headed to the annex to find a seat. It's right next to the main building, with the same pretty wood-tone interior. Turns out this space was made through a collaboration between Cafe Pomun and furniture brand deul.

Soft lighting blended with the wood-tone interior meant every photo came out gorgeous without even trying. The spacious, comfortable seats gave my diet-stressed heart the perfect little escape haha. Quiet enough for a real conversation, too.

How the desserts looked and tasted

Cafe Pomun, this Pyeongtaek dessert café worth the trip, doesn't use a buzzer — staff bring everything to your table themselves.

Iced Americano and desserts set on the table

My desserts and Americano finally arrived! The owner shared a tip: drink the foam first with your lips and really savor it before drinking the rest.

My partner tried it right away and said it was like drinking an 'aerocano.' He doesn't like acidity in coffee, and this bean was nutty without any sourness, so it totally hit my taste too. The aroma was amazing — coffee: passed!!

Chestnut matcha chocolate cake

Looking at the layers of the chestnut matcha chocolate cake, there's chestnut, matcha cream, and even a matcha terrine-like layer. The dense, slightly bitter matcha and the sweet chestnut flavor blended perfectly in my mouth!! Paired with chocolate, that sweet-bitter combo is exactly my type.

One forkful gets you through all the layers, and the round thing on top turned out to be sweet chestnut. A totally lovable autumn dessert🖤

Earl Grey white chocolate madeleine

The Earl Grey white chocolate madeleine is crisp outside, moist inside, with a subtle, classy Earl Grey aroma lingering in your mouth — like a little 'knock knock, it's me, Earl Grey' moment. It's an absolutely perfect match with the bittersweet, nutty iced Americano🖤
