Original vs walnut vs cream cheese egg tart taste test: Doris

In short

Doris Patisserie is an egg tart specialty bakery inside Sokcho Central Market in Gangwon. With a 3pm pickup reservation, the writer got one box of original and one box of cream cheese plus walnut to compare all three flavors — original tasted like the crisp-outside, tender-inside egg tarts from Hong Kong, walnut had a strong cinnamon kick, and a friend ranked cream cheese first. Since reserved pickups go before walk-ins each round, booking a day ahead at Doris Patisserie is the safer move.

What's the shop like outside and inside?

Doris Patisserie sits right inside Sokcho Central Market, so it's perfect to browse the market a bit and then swing by for pickup. The shop has a pink interior so it stands out even from a distance — you can spot it right away ˚ ༘🎀₊˚

Doris Patisserie's round-based operation notice

🧾 What I ordered — one box of original egg tarts, one box of cream cheese + walnut egg tarts

Two boxes of egg tarts picked up from the bakery

Each box comes with 6 tarts, and since I wanted to eat plenty, I picked up one box of original and one box of cream cheese + walnut at the 3pm slot ㆅ

A single original egg tart given as a free extra

Before heading back to our stay, the owner threw in an extra original egg tart for free, and I ate it right away. So crispy and warm, seriously delicious ㅠㅠㅠ You absolutely have to eat one the second you get it!!

Comparing the three flavors: original, walnut, cream cheese

Isn't the color on the original egg tart just gorgeous? Looks delicious at a glance • •

A box of walnut and cream cheese egg tarts

This is the walnut and cream cheese box — I was especially looking forward to the walnut

An egg tart held in hand

The original egg tart was crisp outside, tender inside the second I bit into it — it reminded me of the egg tarts I loved eating in Hong Kong 𓈒𓂂𓏸🇭🇰🤍 This one alone is reason enough to visit Sokcho Central Market

Walnut egg tart with strong cinnamon aroma

The walnut egg tart had a strong cinnamon flavor — I love cinnamon so this was a huge hit for me!! The combo with the nutty walnut was the best

Cream cheese egg tart

The cream cheese one tasted similar to the original, but my friend said this was her number one. It was delicious to my taste too, so next time I revisit I think I'll buy all three — original, walnut, and cream cheese!

How to store and reheat leftover egg tarts

Egg tart reheated the next day
Egg tart box and storage setup

I ran the leftover egg tarts through the air fryer the next day and they were still delicious. They're good cold straight from the fridge too, but if you bake them at 180°C for 2–3 minutes in an air fryer or oven, they get crispy again ⋆。˚ ** Not recommended in the microwave though — the pastry gets soggy

They also make great gift boxes, so if you're visiting Sokcho, stop by Central Market and try the egg tarts at Doris Patisserie 🧑🏻‍🍳
