Maybe it's the typhoon, but September has felt a bit cool. As the heat fades and it turns breezy, I start craving hot soup. So today I came to eat alone at Gang Galbitang, famous as a solo dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan.
Gang Galbitang, a solo dining favorite in Seomyeon, sits on the main road around Busanjin Police Station. You know how areas near police stations tend to have real hidden gems, haha — Gang Galbitang lives up to that, a genuine Seomyeon solo dining spot.
Seomyeon is packed with traffic and people, so public transit is the way to go — and it's right in front of the Bujeon Market bus stop, so it's easy to reach.
Gang Galbitang's menu and drink lineup
This Seomyeon solo dining spot serves galbitang as its base, along with spicy galbitang, galbi noodles, galbi rice soup, and more. They also sell aron-sadae boiled shank meat, great as a drinking side dish.

This Seomyeon solo dining spot has lots of bar tables inside! There's an L-shaped bar table wrapping around a corner as shown on the left, and a long straight bar table runs along one wall. The vibe is quiet and warm, so it's great for eating alone in peace, haha. There are also plenty of 2- and 4-person tables, making it a fine choice not just for solo meals but with friends or parents too. I came here with a friend last time and it was so delicious that I came back alone this time, haha.
Three rib bones and lemon soy sauce — how was it?
After waiting about 10 minutes, a piping-hot galbitang spread arrived!
The tray, arranged like a full set meal, held lemon soy sauce, pickles, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and
peppers, garlic, and doenjang for dipping. Not a huge variety, but the essentials are covered well, haha. If you need more, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.
I dug into the rib meat in the soup first. It looked hot and tender!
Gang Galbitang comes with three huge rib bones, haha. Each piece is big, with no tough or dry parts — tender and easy to separate from the bone, genuinely delicious.
The bone slips right out, haha. The meat is also massive in size~!
After separating the bone, I took a sip of the broth first~ Hot, with a deep beef short rib aroma — a classic, proper galbitang flavor.
The jungmyeon noodles pair really well with the hot, moderately rich broth. Their texture is chewier than regular noodles and they're well seasoned, so slurping them up is really tasty~!
As expected of galbitang, it's also loaded with glass noodles. Eating those glass noodles together with the jungmyeon noodles creates an interesting mix of the springy glass noodles and the chewy jungmyeon, haha.
You cut the meat well with the provided scissors and tongs, then dip it in lemon soy sauce to taste
There's a slice of lemon in it, which looks pretty, and the taste isn't too different from regular soy sauce, so it's easy to eat, haha.
With two kinds of noodles, rice, and hot rib broth, it feels like a carefully prepared full meal.
Eating it alongside the pre-cut short rib meat makes for a warm, satisfying solo meal. Kind of like eating porridge when you're a little under the weather — galbitang feels like it restores your energy.
There's so much meat that it kept turning up until I finished the whole bowl, haha. A truly delicious and filling meal!
