Busan galbitang restaurant, basic bowl with self-bar kkakdugi: Gang
In short
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) restaurant near Bujeon Market in Seomyeon, Busan. The writer ordered the signature basic galbitang, enjoyed large ribs that fell right off the bone in a clean, light broth, and topped it off with extra kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) from the self-bar before mixing rice into the last of the soup. With bar seats for solo diners, it's a great spot for a filling meal on your own in Seomyeon.

🍲 Gang Galbitang, a galbitang (short rib soup) restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan. A hearty bowl of rib soup — and a good spot to eat alone too.

- 🥩 Big, tender ribs
- 🍲 Clean, deep broth
- 🍚 Filling with rice
- 🥢 Various self-serve side dishes
- 👤 Bar seats that are easy for solo diners
On days when I have to eat alone in Seomyeon, or when I'm craving something hot and soupy, I tend to reach for gukbap (soup with rice). This time I went to Gang Galbitang, known for its galbitang in Seomyeon.
It's near Bujeon Market, so it's a convenient spot to stop by when looking for somewhere to eat in Seomyeon. Best of all, Gang Galbitang has seating that makes solo dining comfortable, so I never feel awkward going alone. There really are bar-style seats where solo diners can eat comfortably.
The atmosphere and seating at Gang Galbitang

Walking into Gang Galbitang, the whole place felt clean and well organized. There were bar seats good for solo dining as well as tables for groups, so it worked whether I came alone or with friends or family.
Especially when eating alone, having a bar-style seat instead of sitting awkwardly at a big table makes things so much more comfortable. So personally, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a good solo-dining spot in Seomyeon.
What I ordered: the basic galbitang
What I ordered that day was the signature menu item — galbitang!

After a short wait, a piping hot bowl of galbitang arrived. Just seeing the bubbling broth with those big chunks of rib inside made it look really appetizing.
- 🥩 Large ribs
- 🍲 Hot ox bone broth
- 🍚 Warm rice
- 🥢 Clean side dishes
How was the broth?
With galbitang, the combination of meat and broth really matters. I took a spoonful of the broth first, and it had a clean yet deep flavor.

It wasn't overly salty or heavily seasoned — it was a light, easy-to-eat broth. It worked well with rice and wasn't too heavy to just spoon up on its own, so I kept reaching for more.
The big ribs really deliver!
What I liked most about Gang Galbitang was, of course, the ribs. The ribs were big, so the bowl looked generous at a glance. When I picked at the meat with my chopsticks, it was so tender that the meat separated easily from the bone. A bite of rib meat wasn't tough at all — soft and great with rice.
- 🥩 Pick off a piece of rib
- 🍚 Place it on warm rice
- 🥢 Add a side dish
- 🍲 Finish with a spoonful of broth!
Eating this way, a whole bowl of rice disappeared fast. Sometimes galbitang can be a bit disappointing when the meat portion is small, but Gang Galbitang's ribs were large enough to make for a really filling meal.
Even more filling with rice mixed in
After eating through the ribs and broth, I mixed in some rice at the end. As the rich broth soaked into the grains of rice, it was a whole different flavor! Since the broth was clean, mixing in rice didn't feel greasy or heavy — it went down easily.

Especially with a piece of kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) on top of the rice and a final spoonful of broth — this is exactly what gukbap should taste like!
Side dishes are easy at the self-bar
The basic side dishes came out clean, and if anything ran low I could easily grab more from the self-serve corner. Crunchy kkakdugi or kimchi really do pair well with galbitang.
Alternating between a bite of rib with rice, a side dish, and then more warm broth, I never got tired of it and could finish the whole meal happily. Having a self-bar meant I didn't have to keep asking staff whenever I wanted more side dishes — that was really convenient.
Why it's good for solo dining in Seomyeon
Another advantage of Gang Galbitang is how easy it is to eat alone here. Some restaurants make you feel self-conscious eating by yourself, but here there are bar seats made for solo diners, so there's little pressure about coming alone.
It seems like a great fit for when you're out in Seomyeon alone and craving a hot bowl of gukbap, when you want a hearty breakfast before work or heading out, or when you want a clean, simple lunch by yourself. Several other reviews also mention the solo-friendly seating and atmosphere as a plus.
If you like spicy, try the spicy galbitang too!
Besides the basic galbitang, Gang Galbitang also has a spicier style of galbitang, galbi noodles, and galbi gukbap on the menu. If you like clean, light flavors like I do, I'd recommend the basic galbitang; if you prefer a spicy, punchy broth, the spicy galbitang might be a good choice too. It seems like it would be especially satisfying on a day when you're craving a hearty bowl of soup, since it's soup with ribs in it.

This visit to Gang Galbitang had a different kind of heartiness than an ordinary gukbap place. The hot broth was loaded with big ribs, and the meat was so tender that eating it with rice felt really satisfying. The broth in particular was clean, so I could eat comfortably from start to finish.
Above all, I liked that there are bar seats good for solo dining, making it easy to come here alone. If you want a hearty solo meal in Seomyeon or are looking for a good gukbap spot near Bujeon Market, Gang Galbitang is worth remembering.
