Seafood pocha in Jeonpo, Busan with cold udon and beer: Rigo Susan

In short

Rigo Susan is a seafood pocha (Korean street-style bar) in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan, serving live shrimp alongside aged sashimi. Over beer with a friend, the writer ordered the small live shrimp and assorted sashimi set and added more than eight daily sukiddashi (small side dishes), Sanuki-style cold udon and fried shrimp heads. For two people who eat a lot of sashimi, Rigo Susan's medium set is the better pick over the small.

A clean seafood pocha in the alleys by Jeonpo Station

I had plans with a friend in Jeonpo after a long while. The alleys of Jeonpo-dong are full of pretty, atmospheric spots, right? This time I went to Rigo Susan in Jeonpo, and it had that same lovely vibe — plus same-day fresh seafood and a really solid menu lineup!!!! It's located in an alley not far from Jeonpo Station, so it's easy to get to! Even before stepping inside, the exterior caught my eye — clean but still full of that classic pocha (Korean street-style bar) charm 👀

Ordering the small live shrimp and assorted sashimi set at Rigo Susan

What I ordered was the currently-in-season live shrimp + small assorted sashimi combo. Meeting my friend after so long, we definitely had some cold beer too! 🍻

There was floor seating (banya-jang style) too, so we sat right down and dug in — and the atmosphere, what is going on here~~~ Eating while watching the sunset between the buildings of Jeonpo-dong was seriously great! Unlike the usual musty or fishy smell you get at seafood joints or pochas, this place was kept extremely clean!!!!

More than eight side dishes that change every day

Rigo Susan's sukiddashi (small side dishes) number more than 8 and apparently change daily.

This is the basic sukiddashi spread — seriously generous, right?????? Since it's just side dishes, I didn't expect much flavor-wise, but each one was clearly made with care and tasted great. Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) / shrimp / okonomiyaki / fried items / cold udon and more — the range was really impressive! I'm especially a cold udon lover, so I inhaled it hahaha. What surprised me was that instead of the usual bland, mushy udon noodles, it was chewy Sanuki-style noodles!!!!! Owner's got great taste...

Aged sashimi and live shrimp with no fishy taste

I was speechless looking at the aged sashimi... I'm genuinely known among my friends as someone very picky about raw fish. This was aged sashimi, so there wasn't a trace of fishy taste. The moment it arrived, we couldn't stop eating......... The live shrimp came already shelled, with head and tail removed, which made it much easier to eat. And you could tell just how fresh the shrimp were — even after some time, their legs were still moving ㅠㅠㅠ hahahaha, it was a bit creepy so I just popped them straight into my mouth~~

Fried shrimp heads with soy sauce and wasabi

If you hand over the shrimp heads separately, the staff will fry them up fresh for you right then — and honestly, this is a total drinking-snack thief, you know? The seasoning was perfectly salty and fresh, so even the innards had zero fishy taste. And the live shrimp — need I say more.... so sweet, and dipped in soy sauce with wasabi, it was springy, sweet, and absolutely delicious.

Two big sashimi eaters? Order the medium set

The side dishes that come with the sashimi and seafood pair really well together, and it's a combination that basically demands drinks — I think most people would enjoy it without much disagreement. Above all, the freshness of the ingredients exceeded my expectations, and if you want a seafood pocha with good vibes or tasty drinking snacks in Jeonpo-dong, I strongly recommend Rigo Susan! If you eat a lot of sashimi, I'd recommend ordering the medium size rather than the small. For two adult women, the small size portion of sashimi felt a bit lacking!
