My Chinese food cooldown was fully charged, so my friend and I decided to go find a good Chinese restaurant together. We both live near Guui Station, so we were looking around there when I remembered Hyeongjeae Guui, where I'd eaten so well with a college friend last time!
But wait, what's with the subway suddenly shutting down?? I got on the subway to head to the restaurant and Line 2 had a sudden service stop at Konkuk University Station,,, I rushed out and switched to a bus. I thought I'd be late for my reservation so I called ahead, and they kindly told me to take my time! Touched.

If you make a reservation on Naver ahead of time, the table is set up like this. For groups of 8 or more, call ahead to inquire first!
Across from the kitchen,
there's a private space divided by partitions. That's where I sat last time. It was comfortable to chat with my friend there, cozy vibe! The table I sat at this time was also great. The lighting was actually prettier than the private space, so I liked it.
There were little touches here and there that gave off a classic Chinese restaurant feel. Not overdone, which I liked.
The two brothers' parents ran a Chinese restaurant for 30 years, and the brothers inherited that foundation and know-how, reinterpreting it in their own style. Others can imitate the two brothers' Chinese cooking, but they can't recreate the same taste. Hyeongjeae will change the paradigm of complete Chinese cuisine and diverse alcohol pairings.
Since it's actually run by real brothers, that's probably why it's named Hyeongjeae (형제애, "brotherly love"). Their bond must be something special!

I loved the good-value lunch set last time, so I ordered the same thing again. This combo is seriously the best~ Everyone should try it when having lunch near Guui Station!

You can upgrade ganjjajang and jjamppong to large portions for ₩2,000 each, and jjamppong can be swapped to jjamppong-bap (rice) for free!
Country of origin information
The chopsticks are disposable bamboo ones. My friend has trouble using metal chopsticks with noodles, so she was happy to see wooden ones haha. You can grab extra danmuji (pickled radish), onion, and water yourself from the self-serve station.
You definitely need the elixir of life when eating Chinese food haha. Waited for the food reverently(?) with a cold Zero Coke!
Sweet and sour pork: red sauce and crisp batter
And here comes the sweet and sour pork! Hyeongjeae Guui, a Chinese restaurant near Guui Station, really knows how to coat and fry batter well. The sweet and sour pork proves it! My friend said it had been a while since she'd seen that color of sweet and sour pork sauce. That kind of red sauce isn't so common anymore. A nostalgic flavor.
I don't mind either sauce-on or dip style, but this time I dipped! The meat inside was cooked really nicely too.
But fried food also needs a dip in vinegar soy sauce for full effect! Enjoyed the sweet and sour pork at Hyeongjeae Guui so much.
Why meat jjamppong is the best dish at Hyeongjeae Guui
I'm going to strongly argue that Hyeongjeae Guui's best menu item is, without a doubt, the meat jjamppong!!!
The noodles are so chewy,,, and the portion is genuinely huge,,, ♡.♡
It's loaded with beef belly and seafood. The beef belly is really the kicker in this jjamppong! The savoriness of the meat completes the jjamppong flavor.
The spice level is a pleasant kind of spicy that even spice-wimps can handle, and I enjoyed it even more because of the strong smoky wok flavor. The ingredients are so varied and generous, I love it.
How the ganjjajang sauce is balanced
The ganjjajang here is totally my style too! It's surprisingly hard to find a Chinese restaurant that nails jjajang, but Hyeongjeae Guui absolutely passes the test.
The ganjjajang sauce ratio is genuinely perfect!
There's a satisfying bite to picking out the onions and meat in the ganjjajang one by one! The ingredients are genuinely fresh.
The portion size works out well so I can finish this in one go. Haha.
