This Friday I headed to Mihyang Mungtigi, famous as one of Daegu's best mungtigi (raw beef) spots! Before dinner I stopped at a café and happened to run into a friend who's a Daegu native — the moment I mentioned going to Dongdaegu Station for mungtigi, she guessed Mihyang Mungtigi instantly haha. That's when I figured it must be popular, and sure enough, the place was full and had a waiting list within 30 minutes of opening. Once I tasted the mungtigi, I totally understood why 😋

How far is Mihyang Mungtigi from Dongdaegu Station, and where to park?

Mihyang Mungtigi, a top mungtigi spot in Daegu, is a 7-minute walk from Exit 2 of Dongdaegu Station (Line 1), 6 minutes from Shinsegae Department Store Daegu, and 6 minutes from Dongdaegu Bus Terminal — great accessibility if you're visiting Daegu from out of town and want to try the local mungtigi dish.

There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need street parking, and since the Dongdaegu Station restaurant street is always busy with cars, I'd most recommend public transit. If you're driving in from out of town, staying at a hotel near Dongdaegu Station with its own parking lot makes visiting much easier.

We tried parking at 5 PM on Friday — we circled the block once but couldn't find a spot, and the pay lot was still empty, so we parked there instead. It cost ₩3,000 per hour.

Inside Mihyang Mungtigi: a Korean holiday-table mood

The name Mihyang Mungtigi combines mi (美, beauty of delicious food) with hyang (鄕, the scent of home), meant to evoke coming home for a holiday. That's probably why the folding screens and interior feel so festive, and why the base sides included dongeurangttaeng (Korean meat patties) and Gyeongsang-do style beef radish soup (tang-guk) haha.

Near the counter there was a phone charger and disposable aprons available too.

Right at our reservation time, the base setting arrived — quail eggs, hardtack biscuits, and gim (seaweed) all under covered lids. Once we ordered, out came the beef radish soup, dongeurangttaeng, minari flat dumplings, rice for mungtigi sushi, mungtigi dipping sauce, and sesame oil. The water was also a warm, savory tea-water, which was a nice touch haha.

A bowl of Gyeongsang-do style beef radish soup (tang-guk)

The Gyeongsang-do style beef radish soup, called tang-guk, was the perfect broth to sip alongside the mungtigi — the kind of soup you want to drink straight from the bowl 😋

The flat dumplings came with seasoned minari (water dropwort), and wrapping the fragrant minari around the dumplings like a pancake wrap made an incredible flavor combo — and it's all part of the base sides 👍

Mungcha half-and-half set, 48,000 won: five successful plate flips

The mungcha half-and-half set, small size, on one plate
A plate with mungtigi and fresh chadol sashimi side by side

The mungcha half-and-half set (small) is ₩48,000! It lets you enjoy fresh mungtigi and raw chadol (beef brisket) sashimi at the same time, with the fat carefully trimmed away by hand for an even better bite. And you know that thing everyone tries once the mungtigi arrives, right? It'd been a while since I'd done it myself, so I was a little nervous and started cautiously haha.

Once I tried it and realized it wasn't so bad, I got more daring and ended up flipping the plate five times haha. It's the Daegu-style freshness test — the fresher the mungtigi, the less it slides off the plate! This confirmed it was definitely butchered same-day 👍

Fresh mungtigi confirmed by the plate-flip test

The chewy mungtigi was so fresh that I tried the first bite plain — no fishy taste at all, just a savory flavor that grew the more I chewed. Dipped in sesame oil with settled salt, the salty-savory aroma paired perfectly with the mungtigi's texture ✨

A piece of mungtigi dipped in sesame oil
Close-up of savory fresh chadol sashimi

The fresh chadol sashimi was also incredibly fresh and savory — similar to the mungtigi but with a slight difference, so getting to try both at once with the mungcha half-and-half set was the best choice 😁 And pairing it all with beer, a must with mungtigi, made it even better!

How to eat mungtigi as sushi at the table

Mungtigi sushi made with rice and thick seaweed

The rice served with the table setting can be lightly mixed and placed on gopchang gim (thick seaweed) to eat like sushi! Add the rice, then mungtigi brushed with sesame oil, then a chopstick's worth of mungtigi sauce on top, and you get perfect mungtigi sushi 💛 The mungtigi sauce is clean, spicy, sweet and salty all at once, and combined with sesame oil and thick seaweed, it was bound to taste amazing haha.

Chadol sushi topped with mungtigi sauce

I also brushed the chadol with sesame oil and topped it with mungtigi sauce to make sushi — that was a beautiful flavor too haha.

Ramyeon with beef, 7,000 won, and sikhye, 500 won

A bowl of spicy red-broth ramyeon

After all that fresh raw beef, I was craving a spicy broth, so I ordered the ramyeon too haha. It came with beef brisket and bean sprouts, good for a hangover cure, and having one spicy red-broth dish alongside everything else worked really well.

₩500 sikhye served in a makgeolli cup

Sikhye served in a makgeolli cup is just ₩500! Getting to try this sweet, holiday-flavored rice punch at such a low price felt like great value 😁

Verdict: a regular mungtigi spot near Dongdaegu Station

Mihyang Mungtigi is a top mungtigi restaurant in Daegu where you can enjoy fresh mungtigi and chadol sashimi rarely found in the Dongdaegu Station area, along with a delicious mungtigi sauce, sesame oil, and thick seaweed that let the mungtigi shine at its best 💛

The mungtigi place near Dongdaegu Station I used to go to gradually got worse and eventually closed down, so I hadn't visited any recently — but finding this place means I now have somewhere to bring my friends for fresh mungtigi. My chance of revisiting is 100%!
