Why we went back to Myeonsikdang near Sujigucheong Station

I'd been craving cheese katsu for a while. This time I went to Myeonsikdang Suji Government Office branch (면식당 수지구청점), near Sujigucheong Station!

I'd been here once before, and it was so good and such great value that I decided to go back~~

Where to park: 3 minutes on foot from the Women's Center

I parked at Yeoseonghoegwan and walked about 3 minutes to get there! Worth noting: parking is free after 6pm on weekdays~

The sign glowed brightly even from far away, so it was easy to spot! The menu board out front was neatly laid out, so I could scan it before going in~

This place is popular enough to have appeared on TV! The origin of ingredients is transparently displayed too, so you can eat with confidence haha. They also run various review events worth checking out.

Inside Myeonsikdang: the room and the self-serve bar

Here's what the inside of Myeonsikdang Suji looks like~ Overall it's clean and comfortable, good for eating alone or for a light meal! I was surprised how many customers there were even though I came in early evening haha.

There's a self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant where you can refill whatever side dishes you like as much as you want! I brought back kimchi, pickled radish, broth, and katsu sauce haha. Nice that you can take as many side plates as you need.

What we ordered: cheese katsu and shabu pho

Every table has its own ordering tablet, so ordering and paying is really convenient!! There was a wide range of menu items, from ramen to pho, katsu, and rice bowls haha. Plus all kinds of drinks and ades!! We ended up ordering the cheese katsu and shabu pho~

The Shine Muscat ade came out first! I took a cold sip right away — not too sweet, and delicious. There was so much of it that 2-3 people could easily finish it.

Shabu pho: you can choose the spice level

After a short wait the shabu pho arrived, and it looked so appetizing I snapped a photo right away haha. Since spice level is adjustable, I asked for it as mild as possible~haha. It was loaded with bean sprouts and meat, so I ate until I was stuffed!!

Cheese katsu: good enough for two extra pieces

My cheese katsu showed up too! I cut into the crispy-fried katsu and the cheese stretched out — just looking at it was so appetizing! Super soft, chewy, and delicious haha.

I wanted more cheese katsu so I ordered two extra pieces! With just two menu items the whole table was already full haha. The pickled radish and kimchi were also delicious, so I refilled them once more.

I recorded the whole hearty spread on video. Thinking back, the katsu-and-pho combo really was a great order! Tasted and looked exactly like the kind of food you'd expect from a popular spot!!

Sauces, sides and how the two dishes go together

There was so much cheese packed inside the katsu, and you could choose between spicy or original sauce, which was great. Paired with salt and wasabi, it went really well with the crispy, clean flavor of the katsu and cheese haha.

The pho also had a clean broth and really soft rice noodles, which paired nicely with the katsu. Eating katsu alone can get a bit greasy, but with the pho broth alongside it, it was the best combination haha.
