With the weather getting cooler lately, I've been craving good side dishes with a drink more often haha🍻 This time I went to Susanjang, an izakaya in Seonbu-dong, Ansan! True to its name (susanjang means "seafood market"), it has a wide variety of seafood dishes, so if you're looking for a good restaurant or izakaya in Seonbu-dong, this place is worth checking out.

Where is Susanjang Seonbu, and what is the mood inside?

Susanjang Seonbu is located near the Daiso in Seonbu-dong. It's next to Kyochon Chicken, so it should be easy to find.

Walking in, the place has an overall relaxed izakaya vibe, so it's good for a casual drink with friends, and also fine for a dinner visit.

Raw shrimp sold out: what we ordered at Susanjang Seonbu instead
Looking at the menu, there were way more seafood options than I expected, so I spent a while deciding haha. What I really wanted to eat from the start was raw shrimp… but unfortunately it was sold out that day🥲 I'd honestly gone partly hoping for raw shrimp, so it was a bit disappointing not to get it ㅠㅠ Still, plenty of the other dishes looked delicious, so we switched up the order right away!
What we ordered was autumn crab muchim + buckwheat noodles, and Sokcho squid butter grill.

First, the house side dish, grilled flounder!! It's always solidly delicious no matter when I have it!!
Sokcho squid butter grill arrives as one whole squid

The Sokcho squid butter grill comes out as a whole squid! Grilled whole, it looked really appetizing, and a subtle buttery aroma drifted up the moment it landed on the table — the smell alone was great🧈
The squid was cut into bite-sized pieces we ate one at a time — chewy texture plus the nutty richness of the butter made it really good.

The innards inside were rich and deep, genuinely delicious… I was a bit disappointed the raw shrimp was sold out at first, but once we started eating what we'd ordered, that disappointment disappeared haha.

Especially the mayo-and-wasabi combo was a nice kick… Paired with a strongly seasoned dish like the crab muchim, the butter-grilled squid was on the savory, mild side, so going back and forth between the two worked really well.
What does autumn crab muchim with buckwheat noodles taste like?

Next up, the autumn crab muchim (spicy seasoned crab)! Isn't crab basically synonymous with autumn🦀 The crab muchim came out together with buckwheat noodles, and the presentation alone got the mouth watering.

The crab meat was plentiful and well-seasoned, savory and easy to keep eating, and pairing it with the buckwheat noodles gave a whole different feel.

Eating the crab together with the buckwheat noodles rather than on its own meant the seasoning soaked into the noodles too, and I kept reaching for more. If you like seafood side dishes, I think you'll love this one haha. It's a perfect pairing for drinks especially!
What to know before visiting Susanjang Seonbu in Ansan
If you're looking for a good restaurant in Seonbu-dong, Ansan, or an izakaya in Seonbu-dong for raw fish or seafood side dishes with a drink, I recommend Susanjang! The menu can change with the season, so if there's a specific dish you want, it's worth checking stock before you visit. You might end up like us, hoping for raw shrimp and running into a sold-out sign😂🦐
Still, between the autumn crab muchim with buckwheat noodles and the whole squid butter grill, it was a day I ate well and had a good drink🫶🏻 The seasonal menu variety is great and it's always delicious — strongly recommend Susanjang!!🤍
