Samsong-dong pork BBQ with new self-serve side dish bar: Neopttakjip

Today I'm introducing Neopttakjip Samsong Branch, near Samsong Station, where the meat is delicious and it's great for a group dinner!

I've already visited Neopttakjip Samsong on my own dime many times. Of the three best BBQ spots in my neighborhood, this is probably the one I've visited the most.

The exterior, near Exit 3 of Samsong Station

Neopttakjip is located near Exit 3 of Samsong Station, so it's easy to find. The exterior has a bit of an old-school, retro feel to it.

Interior vibe and room seating

I've been to this place so many times on my own dime, and lately it just keeps getting busier and busier haha. A good restaurant is bound to spread by word of mouth.

The interior was completely packed. Everyone was buzzing around, and honestly it kind of made me excited too (?).

Neopttakjip Samsong Branch has room seating too, so if you want a quieter gathering or dinner, I'd recommend booking ahead.

Menu and prices at Neopttakjip Samsong Branch

Check out the menu — it's not just samgyeopsal (pork belly) and mokssal (pork neck). Hayanssal, kkodeulsal, and sajitsal are all 170g for ₩16,000. If you can't decide, there's the mixed grill: 600g for 2 people at ₩54,000, or the special mixed grill 800g for 3-4 people at ₩72,000.

Basic side dishes and the new self-serve bar

The basic side dishes at Neopttakjip — tangy kimchi, my favorite garlic scape muchim (seasoned side dish), and a fusiilli penne quail-egg thing.. 🩵💛

A big change at Neopttakjip!!! There's now a self-serve bar!!!!!! Before, refilling side dishes meant calling the staff over and over, which felt a bit sorry — now you can just help yourself at the self-serve bar (still, only take what you'll eat~~~).

And the charcoal that came out had great heat.

Mixed grill 600g, tasting each cut

What we ordered at Neopttakjip — the mixed grill 600g for ₩54,000. We said "let's order something else this time!" and ended up ordering the mixed grill again anyway lol. It's great because you get to enjoy various cuts, from samgyeopsal and mokssal to hayanssal, sajitsal, and kkodeulsal. The first time I came, the names sounded unfamiliar so I just ordered samgyeopsal, but after trying hayanssal once, I order the mixed grill every time now. You can get samgyeopsal and mokssal anywhere, but this isn't something you find just anywhere 👍👍👍

Usually the staff grills the meat for you, but every time we insist on doing it ourselves! We put on the samgyeopsal and mokssal first. The kimchi goes on too.

Ugh. The samgyeopsal and mokssal with juices bursting out, insane. One bite in and my eyes went wide ~ 👀

Sajitsal

Chewy and tender but with a bit of bite to it. It's on the fattier side, so it goes great with the garlic scapes served alongside 👍

Hayanssal

Hayanssal, a cut near the jowl area.

Rich in fat with a crisp, square bite — the texture is a work of art. Ugh ~

Kkodeulsal

Chewy just as the name suggests (kkodeul- means chewy). It's a fun cut too, full of juice and texture.

The free slice of pork skin from our Naver reservation!!! Everyone, make sure you book through Naver reservation to get your pork skin. It's savory and delicious dipped in bean powder 🐷🐷🐷

Before, when we ordered pork skin with the 600g, there was always meat left over — but now lol, 600g between two of us is basically nothing 🤣
