Goyang Korean restaurant for four haejangguk bowls: Jeju Eunhui-ne
In short
Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is a Korean restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi, opposite Starfield Goyang. Four of us ordered four ₩12,000 bowls of haejangguk, adding minced garlic and crisp kkakdugi. Verdict: a solid, filling meal before or after shopping.

While looking for somewhere to eat near Starfield Goyang, I visited Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch this time. It is right across from Starfield Goyang, so the location is very convenient. It was an easy distance to reach for a meal either before shopping or once we had finished.

There were several of us this time, so we ordered no fewer than four bowls of haejangguk (Korean hangover soup). Four people, four bowls of haejangguk. Sharing a spread of different dishes is nice too, but that day we decided to keep it simple and each try a bowl for ourselves.
Easy to find, right across from Starfield Goyang

Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is in the e-Pyeonhansesang City Samsong building at 33 Dongsong-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

It is easy to reach from Samsong Station, and being so close to Starfield Goyang is its biggest advantage. If you drive, you can use the building's basement parking, and parking support is available, so visiting by car was convenient too. The address is Units 1-008 and 1-009, e-Pyeonhansesang City Samsong, 33 Dongsong-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do (경기 고양시 덕양구 동송로 33 이편한세상시티삼송 1-008호, 1-009호).
Four bowls of haejangguk

Looking at the menu, there were offal soup, dombe pork, seasoned tripe, and more besides haejangguk. But rather than trying other dishes that day, we decided to properly focus on the haejangguk itself.

One bowl of haejangguk was ₩12,000. For four people, that came to ₩48,000, and seeing four bowls of soup lined up on the table made for quite a generous-looking photo.

The haejangguk contains beef brisket, seonji (coagulated beef blood), ugeoji (outer cabbage leaves), bean sprouts, glass noodles, and more, and it comes with a spicy seasoning paste mixed in as standard. It is not just broth: there are plenty of solid ingredients, making it a good bowl to have with a serving of rice.
If you do not like seonji, you can adjust it when ordering, and you can also request the spicy seasoning paste to be left out according to your taste. That is quite handy when a larger group is visiting together.
Kkakdugi that went especially well with the soup

At a haejangguk restaurant, the broth matters, of course, but I also find myself quietly checking the kimchi served alongside it. Here, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) came as the basic side dish. I did not see any napa cabbage kimchi when I visited; just the kkakdugi was served as standard.

But this kkakdugi was really tasty. It still had that crisp bite, and after a spoonful of broth, having a piece of kkakdugi with it paired wonderfully with the haejangguk.
The taste I remembered from Jeju, with garlic as the key

I had actually eaten at the original Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk location when I went to Jeju before. So when I came to the Goyang Samsong Branch this time, I ate it the way I remembered. One of the fun points of Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk is adding the very finely minced garlic.

Rather than adding just a little, I tend to put quite a lot of garlic into the broth. Add a generous amount, stir it through well, then take a spoonful—the garlic's distinctive aroma joins in, and the broth tastes completely different. If it is your first visit, though, it is better to add it little by little rather than all at once and find the amount that suits your taste.

Personally, I find it tastier the more garlic I add. Maybe because I remembered having it at the Jeju original, eating it this way really brought out that distinctive Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk feeling.
A satisfying portion when each bowl is in front of you
Since the haejangguk arrives piping hot, I tried some of the broth and ingredients first before mixing in the rice. With ingredients such as brisket, bean sprouts, and ugeoji all together, it is the kind of dish that truly feels like you have had a meal once you finish a bowl.
It is also worth noting that extra rice and broth are available when each person orders one menu item.

There is no need to worry from the start that the portion might not be enough; if you need more rice or broth as you eat, you can get extra.
The place where I first started eating seonji

I was not originally someone who went out of my way to eat seonji, but Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk was where I started eating it.

I first tried it at the Jeju original, and it barely had that characteristic seonji smell. It felt fresh, so I could eat it without hesitation. Since then, when I go to Eunhui-ne Haejangguk, I make sure not to leave out the seonji.

If you have preconceived ideas about seonji, you could try just a little at first as I did, then have it with the soup if it suits you. A piece of seonji with a spoonful of haejangguk broth turns out to be a quietly good combination too.
A good meal before or after shopping at Starfield Goyang

The main reason I thought this place was good was, again, the location. It was convenient to finish shopping at Starfield Goyang and eat right away without going far. The reverse route—eating first and then heading to Starfield—works well too. It gives you another option beyond looking for somewhere to eat inside Starfield. Especially when several people are moving together, it is useful to know a reliable haejangguk restaurant where choosing the menu is easy.
A Samsong haejangguk spot worth remembering

This time, we ordered and ate four bowls of haejangguk, and on days when you do not want to agonize over what to order, getting one bowl each worked nicely. At ₩12,000 per bowl, it is a filling meal before or after shopping at Starfield. With its proximity to Starfield Goyang, access from Samsong Station, and convenient parking, Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is worth adding to the list when looking for a place to eat around Samsong.
Hours are Monday 10:00–15:30 and Tuesday through Sunday 10:00–22:00, with last orders at 21:30. The building's basement parking is available.
