Gwanggyo gyukatsu restaurant with two free salad refills: Gyuen-dang
In short
Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) charcoal-grill Japanese restaurant on the basement level of the Ajizone building at Avenue France in Gwanggyo, Suwon. Booking on Naver the day before, the writer arrived at 11:30 for lunch, ordered the sirloin gyukatsu (9 pieces), and had the salad that cuts the richness refilled twice. The fattier sirloin came out more tender than the tenderloin, and staff relit the tabletop charcoal grill each time it went out, so the meal never stalled.

I wanted to introduce the gyukatsu place I always visit whenever I go to Avenue France! This is already my second visit since moving to Suwon haha. There aren't many good gyukatsu spots in Suwon, so whenever I'm in Gwanggyo, this is where I go without fail!! 🤤

The menu and the Naver review event freebie

You can click the photo of the menu to enlarge it!! Last time I visited I had tenderloin gyukatsu, so this time I ordered sirloin gyukatsu instead‼️ They're currently running a Naver visitor review event offering a free mini okonomiyaki, so anyone visiting should join in ☺️👍🏻 It's a full 2 pieces!!!
Packed even at 11:30 — why a Naver booking is a must
Even though I booked on Naver the day before and arrived at Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch at 11:30, the place was already bustling‼️ As you know, Gwanggyo has a ton of office workers ㅠ that's just how popular Gyuen-dang is... 🥹🥹 I really recommend booking ahead on Naver haha.

The interior was cozy and charming, just what you'd expect from a Japanese restaurant! The tables were nicely sized, with various seating options like 2-tops and 4-tops, making it a comfortable space to eat in!! And the staff were so kind too 👍🏻👍🏻

The seat we sat at had a great view of the greenery outside, so I could grill my gyukatsu while feeling all healed 🌳 what a view, seriously 👍🏻👍🏻

After ordering, they lit the charcoal grill for the gyukatsu!! The fire went out about 3 times(?) while I was eating, but each time they kindly relit it right away 🔥
What comes with the sirloin gyukatsu set
Gyuen-dang's sirloin gyukatsu comes out as a full set on a round wooden tray. It comes with the gyukatsu, red pickled radish, wasabi, pink salt, salad, brown dipping sauce, miso soup, rice, and a single pat of butter 👍🏻💓

Such a neatly plated sirloin gyukatsu... just looking at the photos makes my mouth water 🤤

Sirloin vs tenderloin: why the sirloin won
Personally, I liked the sirloin gyukatsu even more than the tenderloin 💓 It's a slightly fattier cut, so it was softer and more tender — I really liked that! And the salad that comes with it was genuinely delicious and cut through the richness so well that I refilled it about twice, and they packed each refill generously, which made it even better 👍🏻🤤

The mildly sharp wasabi paired really well with the pink salt! The miso soup was also nicely seasoned and warm ♨️

Since it comes cut into 9 pieces, each piece is neither too big nor too small, so it was just the right size to eat little by little alongside the side dishes 👍🏻

Grilling it yourself, from a light sear to butter-grilled
Finally starting to grill my gyukatsu 🤍 The charcoal fire was really strong, so I loved being able to cook it exactly to my liking, and it cooked quickly and precisely, which was great, hehe...

At first I tried it barely seared, just enough for the color to change. It was so soft and not dry at all, absolutely delicious. 💓

I really love wasabi, so dipping it into the brown sauce with wasabi on top was absolutely the best combination 👍🏻

After that, I grilled it with the butter that comes on the side 🧈 When you put the butter on first, it sizzles and melts, and if you place the gyukatsu on top right then, it soaks up a savory-rich buttery flavor that makes for an incredibly delicious bite 🥄

The absolute best, most delicious gyukatsu...👍🏻 I'm so happy there's a gyukatsu place in Gwanggyo...

Just looking at the photos makes me drool. 🤤🤤
Final verdict on Gyuen-dang in Gwanggyo
Today's short verdict‼️ Sirloin gyukatsu that's incredibly delicious for the price, plus super kind staff — loved it all!!🤍 They kept refilling everything and relit the grill the moment it went out, so I could finish my meal deliciously without any interruptions. 👍🏻 If you're looking for a gyukatsu place in Gwanggyo, come give this one a try 🍀
