Pangyo grilled pork restaurant with herring roe bibimbap: Dwaeji

In short

Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo Avenue France Branch is a grilled pork restaurant on the first floor of Avenue France in Pangyo, Seongnam, where staff grill the meat at your table. Arriving right at opening, the writer ordered one serving of pork belly, one serving of the Insaeng pork neck, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and herring roe bibimbap, then tried the meat four ways: with salt, with herring roe, with minari (water dropwort) and with wasabi and ginger. The herring roe served as a free side dish paired surprisingly well with the pork, making Dwaeji Mansion an easy choice for a family meal or a group dinner.

Dwaeji Mansion menu and what we ordered

Menu at Dwaeji Mansion Pangyo branch

Once we sat down, we checked out the menu first 👀 There was a wide range of meat dishes and meal options, so it was hard to decide what to order.

After some thought, here's what we ordered!

  • 🥩 Pork belly (1 serving)
  • 🥩 Insaeng pork neck (1 serving)
  • 🍲 Cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew)
  • 🍚 Herring roe bibimbap

That was our order! We decided to enjoy both the grilled meat and a proper meal too 😋

Herring roe served as a free side dish

After ordering, we waited a bit and the basic side dishes started coming out one by one 🍽️ Seeing the neatly arranged side dishes made us feel ready to dig into the meat. But one dish caught our eye — herring roe!

Dwaeji Mansion serves herring roe as a basic side dish! It was a bit of a fresh surprise to find herring roe as a standard side at a BBQ restaurant 😊 From that point on, we were really looking forward to the meal...

Thick pork belly and Insaeng pork neck, grilled by the staff

Finally, the meat we ordered arrived 🥩

Thick raw cuts of pork belly and pork neck

The first thing we noticed about the pork belly and pork neck was how thick the cuts were! They looked high quality just from the look of them, and with that thickness, we couldn't wait to try them 🤭 The thick cut made us look forward to the juiciness and texture once grilled, honestly.

One of Dwaeji Mansion's biggest strengths! The staff grill the meat for you. Even the sight of them grilling the raw Insaeng pork neck got our expectations up...

Staff member grilling pork belly on the grill

While grilling, the staff member kindly explained how to eat the meat for the best flavor 😊 Watching them flip the meat at just the right moment and cut it into perfectly bite-sized pieces made it clear — a place where staff grill for you really is different.

We just sat back, chatted, and waited for the meat to cook to perfection 🤭

Four ways to eat the pork at Dwaeji Mansion

The pork neck and pork belly, grilled golden brown ❤️🔥

When the thick cuts were done cooking, they looked absolutely mouthwatering. Taking a bite, the meat was even more tender and delicious than I expected — very satisfying!

1. Pork with salt

First, the staff recommended pork neck with salt. The salt grains were large but not too salty, and it paired really well...! I was worried the pork neck might be dry, but... it was so tender 💕

2. Pork with herring roe

Grilled meat topped with herring roe

We tried the meat topped with herring roe 🥩💕 Eating them together, it paired much better than I expected. The savory, clean flavor of the meat combined with the salty, savory flavor of the herring roe made the taste much richer in the mouth haha.

3. Pork with minari (water dropwort)

This combo needs no explanation — the aroma of minari (water dropwort) gives the meat a clean, refreshing edge!

4. Pork with wasabi and ginger

This combination properly cuts through the richness of the meat, right? Delicious, as expected.

Working through all four combinations, each bite had a different flavor than eating the meat plain, and I kept reaching for more! It really shows how much the way you eat meat matters too. It was a varied and fun meal!

Finishing with cheonggukjang and herring roe bibimbap

As we were enjoying the meal, the cheonggukjang we ordered arrived 🍲 We scooped up a spoonful of the savory fermented soybean stew and ate it alongside the meat!

Cheonggukjang with tofu and vegetables

I really think you need a soup dish when eating meat! The cheonggukjang was savory and packed with vegetables and tofu, making the meal feel hearty and satisfying :) And then, the herring roe bibimbap I'd been looking forward to!

We'd already tasted herring roe as a basic side dish, but having it as a bibimbap (mixed rice bowl) felt completely different. It cleaned up our palate after the meat while finishing the meal on a hearty note — really nice.

Is Dwaeji Mansion worth it for dinner at Pangyo Avenue France?

What I loved about Dwaeji Mansion, this Pangyo restaurant, is that the staff grill the meat deliciously for you and explain how to eat it, letting you enjoy the meal with ease :) In particular, the energetic greeting the moment we walked in, the grilling process, and the explanations on how to eat — the staff's friendly service stayed with me 👍🏻

The thick pork belly and tender Insaeng pork neck were delicious, and pairing the herring roe that comes as a basic side with the meat was a unique, enjoyable touch haha. If you're craving Korean BBQ in Pangyo and looking for a place where the staff grill the meat for you, it's worth a visit!
