Set for two with tonkatsu, cold soba and curry near Pangyo Station

Today I'm introducing a tonkatsu spot for lunch in Pangyo. It's Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch, in the basement of Alphadom Tower near Pangyo Station. They call themselves a handmade tonkatsu specialist, so I figured this would be a good option for anyone wondering what to eat for lunch in Pangyo.

Basic info on Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch

One of the reasons this is a great lunch spot in Pangyo is the parking. You can use the Alphadom Tower parking lot for free for up to 3 hours. That's pretty generous for Pangyo.

No weekday break time is another plus. Even if you miss the usual lunch hour and show up at an awkward time, the doors are open.

Getting there from Pangyo Station

It's on the basement floor of Alphadom Tower. It connects underground to Pangyo Station and the Hyundai Department Store, so you can get there without getting wet on a rainy day. Just walk straight along the underground shopping corridor.

This is the entrance to Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch. There's a Catch Table waiting kiosk next to the door. When it gets crowded at lunchtime, you can register there and wait.

Atmosphere and seating

There are bar seats too, so it's good for solo dining. Seems like a lot of people come alone during the Pangyo lunch rush.

The dining hall looks like this. The tables are spaced generously and the lighting is bright. Each table has its own tablet, so you don't need to call a staff member.

The set for two, laid out

Two full set trays came out. When you order the set, this is what you get: katsu + noodles + mini curry + rice + side dishes. Each tray comes out completely full, so it looks great.

What I liked about the set for two is that one comes with loin (rosu) and the other with tenderloin (hire), and the noodles are different too — one cold soba, one udon.

The rosu katsu comes out as one whole piece. The breading is thin and you can see the texture of the meat. It doesn't look greasy and looks crispy.

How was the katsu?

First, the cold soba. The dipping sauce (tsuyu) is rich, topped with grated radish and scallions. Mixing in a little wasabi made it refreshing. Not overly sweet — that's the standout feature!

This is a cross-section of the rosu katsu. The meat inside is white and moist. The breading is thin enough that you can really taste the meat. I get why they call themselves a handmade tonkatsu specialist.

This is the hire katsu. It comes as several thick pieces. Since it's tenderloin, it's much leaner. If you're not up for something greasy, order the hire.

This is the mini curry that comes with the set. Dipping the katsu in it was also delicious. The curry is thick, with more umami than sweetness.

I also tried spooning the curry over the rice. Even though it's called mini curry, the portion isn't small. There's enough to mix with a full bowl of rice.

I also tried dipping the katsu briefly into the cold soba broth, and that was a nice bonus too. As the broth soaks in, it gets softer!

Final thoughts

If you order the set for two, you get noodles and mini curry along with the katsu, so it's a filling meal. And since there's no weekday break time, you can go even if you're running late for lunch.
