Sokcho seafood restaurant: marinated shrimp and crab at Geu Badaro
In short
Sokcho Geu Badaro is a Korean restaurant on Expo-ro in Sokcho serving haemul modum-jang (assorted seafood marinated in soy sauce) and hot-pot rice. A family of four ordered the 2-person seafood modum-jang set (₩70,000, includes 2 potato hot-pot rice bowls) and found it plenty, thanks to generous hot-pot rice and side dishes, with 7 kinds — marinated shrimp, blue crab, abalone and more — that were not overly salty. With a neat basic table setting, its own parking lot and baby chairs, Sokcho Geu Badaro is an easy pick for a family meal.

I came on a trip to Sokcho~!! Sokcho means the sea, and the sea means seafood, right haha. Since I made it all the way to Sokcho, I wanted to eat proper seafood, so I went to 'Sokcho Geu Badaro,' known for its haemul modum-jang (assorted seafood in soy sauce marinade). Starting with the modum-jang, they had a ton of seafood dishes — abalone hot-pot rice, red snow crab hot-pot rice — so much 🫶 Today's review is the seafood modum-jang from 'Sokcho Geu Badaro,' my pick for Sokcho hot-pot rice!

Parking and the dining room at Sokcho Geu Badaro
Sokcho Geu Badaro is on the 1st floor at 171 Expo-ro in Sokcho, and it has its own parking lot right next to the building, so driving there is easy. The place is quite spacious and the interior was really clean.

Arrived at Sokcho Geu Badaro~!! The place was pretty spacious. The building next door with the red awning looked like it sells chocolate!

Their own parking lot was right next to the building. It's fairly large so parking should be easy!

I was surprised how clean the place looked when I walked in! It had a bit of a brunch-cafe vibe haha. Eating seafood modum-jang here felt extra clean 🥺

This is the entrance right as you walk in! The outer area is set up as a waiting zone, and I loved the waiting-area sofa haha. I'm always a fan of places that give you such plush seats 💖
Window seats and group tables at Sokcho Geu Badaro

The interior is split into two main areas! The first is floored with floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for a date on a nice day, and the second has group seating! That space itself seems rentable, so if you have a group gathering, just book ahead!

Checked the restroom too! It's an indoor restroom. The inside was spacious and clean, which I liked! They also had plenty of baby chairs ready, so it seems totally fine to bring the family!

They even had coat hangers ready >-< Handy for hanging jackets if you come in winter~!
Is the ₩70,000 two-person seafood set enough for a family of four?
Sokcho Geu Badaro's seafood modum-jang is ₩70,000 for 2 people and includes 2 bowls of potato hot-pot rice. With a family of four, we only ordered the 2-person seafood modum-jang, but between the hot-pot rice and the many side dishes, the 2-person portion was actually enough!

Seafood modum-jang (2 people) 70,000 (includes 2 potato hot-pot rice bowls) / Abalone hot-pot rice 22,000 / Red snow crab hot-pot rice 22,000
Whoa... when the seafood modum-jang came out it looked so pretty that even my sloppiest phone shots came out gorgeous!

The seafood platter really looked like GOAT tier 🥺 They basically bring out 2 servings of potato hot-pot rice as standard, so no worries about running out of rice!
What is in the 7-kind marinated seafood platter, and how does it taste?

The seafood modum-jang had a really diverse lineup of seafood! Shrimp jang, salmon jang, octopus jang, scallop jang, crab jang, abalone jang, and even whelk jang..!! The staff told us to cut everything with scissors except the shrimp, and to mix in the egg yolk in the middle! So I shook it all up diligently~~~ Overall the seafood jang wasn't overly salty! It was just the right level to eat with rice! The crab jang had plump, meaty crab. The shrimp jang was sweet and chewy 🫶❤️
The side dishes at Sokcho Geu Badaro
What I liked most at Sokcho Geu Badaro was the basic table setting. Tomatoes drizzled with yuzu sauce, braised burdock root, seasoned bracken fern, zucchini namul, perilla leaf pickle — the side dishes felt homemade.

The basic side dishes were well done too! The tomato in the first photo was drizzled with yuzu sauce. It's perfect eaten last after finishing your rice, so I recommend saving one to eat at the very end!

I really liked this braised burdock root >-< It had a sweetish flavor that hit my taste exactly! The seasoned bracken fern and zucchini namul genuinely tasted homemade. Even my parents said while eating it that it seemed handmade, and enjoyed it a lot haha.

That perilla leaf pickle was really tasty too ㅠㅠㅠ I don't usually eat seasoned perilla leaves, but I had several helpings of this one! It was great just wrapped around rice 🥺❤️
Marinated seafood to take home, plus Badaro chocolate
Sokcho Geu Badaro also sells soy-marinated shrimp jang, seasoned shrimp jang, octopus jang, and abalone jang for takeout. Right next door, they also sell Badaro chocolate.

As soon as I walked out, I noticed they sell seafood jang too! Soy-marinated shrimp jang, seasoned shrimp jang, octopus jang, and abalone jang are all sold as takeout, great if you want to eat it at home! And right next door, they also sell Badaro chocolate. Chocolate sold at a seafood jang restaurant.. now that's interesting??
Walking Cheongcho Lake Park after lunch
It's less than a 5-minute walk from Sokcho Geu Badaro to Cheongcho Lake Park. Eating and then strolling by the calm lake made for a perfect little combo.

Cheongcho Lake Park was nearby so I went for a walk! It's less than a 5-minute walk away. Eating a meal while looking at a calm lake and then taking a stroll — ahh, the perfect Sokcho trip course 👍 The seafood modum-jang was delicious with its soft, not-too-salty flavor, and especially the basic side dishes were neat and tasty, which was totally my thing! That's my review of 'Sokcho Geu Badaro,' my pick for Sokcho hot-pot rice~!!
