Shrimp dakgangjeong and slushy beer in Jeonju Hanok Village

While looking around Jeonju Hanok Village, I got hungry and started searching for something simple to eat. There is so much street food in the village that you end up wanting to try this and that as you wander around, but I decided to get shrimp dakgangjeong and slushy beer from Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store (만년닭강정 한옥마을직영점).

The menu I spotted while passing by, and my order

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy fried chicken) specialist that is easy to stop by while exploring Hanok Village. A large dakgangjeong menu board is posted out front, so I could see at a glance what they sold even while walking past.

They use fresh fruit sauce, so it was not just sweet—it had a subtle sweetness and was not overpowering, which meant I kept reaching for more without getting tired of it!

You can choose mild, spicy, and other flavors for the dakgangjeong, then pick from three shrimp dakgangjeong and shrimp gangjeong options. Side dishes including sotteok-sotteok (rice cake and sausage skewers), fried jjonddeugi, cheese balls, and sweet potato cheese sticks are available too.

They were also selling Jeonju moju, a local rice wine drink you can find in Jeonju Hanok Village, and it caught my eye.

Hot shrimp dakgangjeong at the pavilion

They fried the pre-fried chicken once more, so it came out piping hot, and they gave it to us with the lid open because of the steam. The smell was insane,, There was a pavilion nearby, so we decided to eat there!

The shrimp dakgangjeong had sweet sauce evenly coating the crisp-fried chicken and shrimp. It was quite a lot, so I think three people could share it.

Slushy beer that was welcome on a hot day

The slushy beer I ordered with the dakgangjeong had a generous cap of white foam on top, and the cold look alone got a pass! Maybe because I was hot after walking around Hanok Village, the cold beer was even more welcome.

Taking a sip of slushy beer halfway through the dakgangjeong was perfect for refreshing my palate, and I regretted not getting a large one,, haha.

Mild sauce and plump shrimp

I loved how plump the shrimp were in the shrimp dakgangjeong, and there were quite a lot of them tucked among the chicken pieces, making it more fun texture-wise than regular dakgangjeong alone. Since I chose mild, the sauce was not too much, overly sweet, or salty either, which made it even better,,!

It tasted even better when I ate it after continuing to walk around Hanok Village. Bringing other foods from nearby to eat together was fun too, since I got to try a variety of things. If you are looking for a simple bite in Jeonju Hanok Village, ordering shrimp dakgangjeong with slushy beer at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store could be a good idea. The crisp dakgangjeong had lots of plump shrimp, making it great when hungry, and with cold slushy beer alongside it, it was just right for a quick snack break while exploring Hanok Village.
