Jeonju fried chicken restaurant for family takeout: Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

Today, I’m sharing my visit to Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, a Jeonju Hanok Village food spot! As you stroll around Hanok Village, there are so many different things to eat all around you. Once you start looking here and there, the smells make it impossible not to give in,, So I ended up being lured into Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store :)

Finding Mannyeon Dakgangjeong in Jeonju Hanok Village

Starting at the entrance to Jeondong Cathedral and walking past Gyeonggijeon Shrine, you’ll find food stalls packed along both sides of the street. Every shop catches your eye, catches you with its smell, and basically captures you from every angle,, 🤤

As you walk, you’ll come to an intersection, and right there on the right is a sign in huge yellow letters: !!Mannyeon Dakgangjeong!! Honestly, even without the sign, the smell of chicken frying drifts over from far away, so it’s easy to find,,

They use fresh fruit sauce, so I automatically thought I had to try the seasoned flavor, haha 😆🤤

Dakgangjeong and side dishes

• Dakgangjeong (sweet crispy Korean fried chicken): ₩18,000–₩30,000
• Shrimp + dakgangjeong: ₩23,000–₩35,000
• Sizes: medium / large
• Flavors: fried / seasoned / spicy seasoned / soy sauce
• Shrimp gangjeong: ₩20,000
• Cheese stick: ₩3,000
• Cheese ball: ₩3,000
• Sotteok sotteok: ₩3,000
• Fried jjonddeugi: ₩4,000

The sides are in the ₩3,000 range too, so they’re perfect for picking up alongside the chicken,, Maybe I should have bought cheese balls 😭 You know Jeonju means moju (a traditional rice wine), right?! If chicken alone feels a little lacking (?) for you, I think it would be nice to buy some moju to have with it too. They also accept Onnuri payment, so try buying an Onnuri gift certificate and getting this tasty dakgangjeong at 7% off-!

Large half seasoned and half soy-sauce chicken to go

I stopped by while taking a walk around Hanok Village and got a large order of half seasoned and half soy-sauce dakgangjeong to take home for my family. The large half-and-half order was ₩30,000.

There were lots of people buying it, so chicken was continually being fried. It came out quickly and was piping hot 🤭🩶 Dakgangjeong really tastes best once it cools, but it has its own charm when it’s hot too, haha.

As soon as it came out, I grabbed one of each flavor. They were moist, thoroughly coated in sauce, and so good-! They close the box for you, but I opened the lid and carried it home that way so it could cool really well~.

How it tasted cooled and the next day

When I got home and tried it, it had cooled just right and the sauce had become nice and thick. Haha, it really does taste best cooled! I didn’t choose the spicy flavor because I was worried it might be too hot, but the seasoned sauce was pleasantly sweet, so I think I could have handled the spicy one too! Haha, I recommend the soy sauce plus spicy seasoned combination.

There was a little left, so I put it in the refrigerator and ate it the next day—and that was delicious too,,, hehe. If you’re traveling in Jeonju and wondering what to have for a snack or late-night meal, I recommend Mannyeon Dakgangjeong.
