It’s a place I stop by every time I come to Hanok Village. This time, I got both the original and cheese fried octopus to go. I went back to Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch (문꼬치문강정 전주한옥마을점), one of those Jeonju Hanok Village street foods I keep thinking about.

Where Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is located

It’s right beside the 600-year-old ginkgo tree. Omokdae is a 100 m walk away, while Gyeonggijeon and Jeondong Cathedral are each 200 m away. Come down the alley between Jeonju Hanok Village Public Parking Lots 1 and 2, pass Hwanggeum Sibwon-ppang, then turn left at the Haru Ilgi intersection and walk 30 m.

A great stop while strolling Hanok Village
It’s on the main route through Hanok Village, so it’s an easy place to naturally stop while sightseeing. There are tables right beside the shop if you want to sit down, or you can take it away and eat while walking around the village.

Getting it right after it’s cooked and eating as you walk fits the special feel of Jeonju Hanok Village street food so well.

They use only natural cheese containing at least 99% mozzarella, rather than frozen cheese, along with food-certified processed chicken skewers and dried-octopus skewers.

From fried octopus to octopus and chicken skewers
The menu includes fried octopus, octopus skewers, and chicken skewers.

What does the original fried octopus taste like?
The fried octopus is crisp outside and chewy inside. Its texture is similar to dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy chicken), but the octopus adds its own springy chew, so every bite feels different.

The teriyaki mayo sauce is addictive, so once you take one bite, you just keep reaching for more haha.

Pack the cheese fried octopus too
This is the original fried octopus topped with natural mozzarella cheese. Since it’s 100% natural cheese, the flavor is rich and it gives you that long, stretchy cheese pull.

The cheese adds a nutty richness to the crisp fried octopus, and when you alternate between the two, it’s hard to choose whether the original or cheese version is better haha. It also photographs beautifully, perfect for a Hanok Village proof shot.

Skewer recommendations beyond fried octopus
There are plenty of skewer choices besides fried octopus. The cheese octopus skewer is topped with cheese, while the katsuobushi octopus skewer comes with bonito flakes fluttering over it. The chicken skewers also pair teriyaki sauce with that sweet-and-salty flavor, making one easy to carry as you walk.

A Jeonju Hanok Village snack-route tip
Park at the Hanok Village public parking lot, walk through Gyeonggijeon and Jeondong Cathedral, then pick up food at Munkkocchi Mungangjeong in front of the 600-year-old ginkgo tree and eat as you head toward Omokdae. It’s the perfect route, and a place that absolutely belongs on a Jeonju Hanok Village snack course.

Final thoughts after trying both original and cheese
It’s a flavor I keep thinking about, so I end up stopping by every time I visit Hanok Village. I packed both the original and cheese versions and ate them while walking—they disappeared so quickly. It’s a great Jeonju Hanok Village food stop for choosing from a variety of skewers and fried octopus.
