Bucheon seolleongtang that needs no salt, with rice for kids: Hanchon

When I'm eating out with my kid, I check whether parking is easy and whether there's something my child can actually eat before I even look at the menu. This time we went to Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch in Jakdong, Bucheon. 😊 Seolleongtang (ox bone soup) is easy to share with a kid, and with a big parking lot and spacious store, it worked well as a family dinner spot. What made it even better was that my child ate really well once I mixed rice into the soup. ❤️

Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch is located in Jakdong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon. What I liked most as soon as I arrived was how spacious the parking lot was!

Even in the photo, you can see there's plenty of parking space, right? Parking is always a worry when moving around with a kid or taking parents out to eat, so it was a relief to visit this place. There's a hill right behind the store too, which made the surroundings feel a bit more open.

The brick exterior that marks Hanchon Seolleongtang in Jakdong

We visited at night, and the arched windows and brick building really stood out. There's a large Hanchon Seolleongtang sign at the entrance, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit.

The sign said Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch has been operating at its current location for 12 years. Having run in the same spot for so long, I imagine plenty of locals come here whenever they're craving seolleongtang.

Inside Hanchon Seolleongtang: seat space for a family dinner

Stepping inside, the store was even more spacious than I expected from the outside. The tables weren't cramped together, and there were plenty of seats, so it looked good for larger groups too.

With the wide parking lot and generous seating, I thought this would be a good place to bring parents for a family meal.

Each table had a tablet, so it was convenient to order just by browsing the menu without having to call a staff member over.

What we ordered at Hanchon Seolleongtang 🍚

We ordered seolleongtang for 11,000 won and galbi mandu (small) — 5 pieces for 6,000 won. Since I wanted to eat rice separately, I ordered the seolleongtang with rice on the side.

Milky seolleongtang broth seasoned right without salt 🤍

The seolleongtang came out bubbling in a stone bowl! Even in the photo, you can tell the broth is milky white, right?

There was plenty of scallion and meat inside too, so it made for a hearty meal. Apparently at Hanchon Seolleongtang, the rice is cooked a bit thicker and more savory so it blends well with the starch and broth.

Since I'd ordered rice separately, I tried the broth and meat first, then mixed in the rice partway through. But taking one bite, I was surprised —

Huh? I don't think I even need to add salt.

Usually at seolleongtang restaurants, I reach for the salt right away, but here, to my taste, it was seasoned just right from the start. Not too salty but not bland either, so it was easy to just eat as is. A spoonful of the milky broth, then rice mixed in — a truly filling meal. 😋

Rice stirred into the soup, and my child ate it all ❤️

And here's the part I liked most that day! My kid really ate well. I mixed rice into the seolleongtang broth for my child, and they ate way better than I expected. Haha. When eating out with a kid, I often end up worrying about separate menus for the adult and the child, but with seolleongtang, mixing in rice makes it easy for a kid to eat too.

Seeing my kid eat well was, by itself, enough to boost my satisfaction as a mom. 😂 They also sell a kids' seolleongtang for 7,000 won. If you're looking for a hearty meal to share with your kid, seolleongtang seems like a solid choice.

Kimchi and kkakdugi, the side dishes seolleongtang needs

You can't have seolleongtang without kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi)! We cut the kimchi and kkakdugi set on the table into bite-sized pieces and ate them together. A spoonful of the milky broth followed by a crunchy piece of kkakdugi was just right.

Since the seolleongtang itself was well seasoned, I enjoyed the broth as is and paired it with kimchi and kkakdugi here and there.

Galbi mandu (rib dumplings), 5 pieces for 6,000 won

Seolleongtang alone felt like not quite enough, so we also ordered galbi mandu (rib dumplings). They came out freshly steamed, long and plump-shaped as pictured.

When eating a soup-based dish like seolleongtang, ordering dumplings alongside makes for a good combo. They're easy to share among a group too, and worked well as a side to the seolleongtang.

Why Hanchon Seolleongtang works for a family dinner in Jakdong, Bucheon

This visit to Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch was easy from parking to the meal itself. What I liked most was that the seolleongtang was seasoned just right without needing extra salt, and since mixing in rice made my kid eat so well, I'd love to come back with my child again.

On top of that, the spacious parking and generous seating also made it look like a good spot to bring parents for a family meal. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Kkachiul Station or in Jakdong, it might be worth stopping by for a warm bowl of seolleongtang. 😊 Especially as the weather starts turning chilly, I think this milky, hot broth will come to mind even more. ❤️
