Gochujang black quabaorou at a Dongdaegu lamb skewer spot: Yangbokjeom
In short
Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch is a lamb skewer restaurant near Dongdaegu Station in Dong-gu, Daegu. The writer ordered two servings of Yangbokjeom's wangkkochi (thick king-size lamb skewers, 8 pieces at 210g) plus the black quabaorou, grilling the skewers over charcoal; of all the dipping spices, plain salt suited the lamb best, and the gochujang-based black quabaorou came out sweet, sour and slightly spicy. With no gamey lamb smell, Yangbokjeom is an easy choice even for friends new to lamb.

Today I'm bringing you a story about my visit to Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch, a lamb skewer restaurant near Dongdaegu Station. This place is known for its thick lamb skewers and a variety of lamb dishes, and while I definitely wanted the skewers, I was also curious about their black quabaorou (Chinese sweet-and-sour meat dish), which looked unusual on the menu. So I ordered both and dug in.
Let me walk you through the vibe of the place, the menu lineup, the ongoing deals, and my honest thoughts on the taste!

The main menu featured Yangbokjeom's wangkkochi (big skewers), lamb sirloin skewers, and lamb flower ribs, plus side dishes like black quabaorou, lamb ttubap (fried rice), and okmyeon (corn noodles).
The menu noted that Yangbokjeom focuses more on the weight of the meat than the number of skewers. While other places typically give you 10 skewers at 180–190g, Yangbokjeom's are 8 skewers at 210g, so each skewer seemed noticeably thick.
We ordered: Yangbokjeom wangkkochi x2 servings Black quabaorou 😀

Two servings of wangkkochi lamb skewers, charcoal-grilled and dipped in salt
When the wangkkochi arrived, the meat definitely looked thick. The pieces were cut larger than typical lamb skewers, giving them an even better texture👍

They grilled the skewers over charcoal, rolling them around. The tablet display advised not to overcook them but to grill just until the pink disappears, so I kept that in mind while cooking.

The table had several spices set out — cumin, curry powder, chuanliao (Chinese spice blend), and salt — so I could pick whichever suited my taste.

Once cooked through, the lamb skewers had a nice charcoal aroma along with juicy meat. There was no gamey lamb smell at all, so I think this would be easy to enjoy even with a friend who doesn't eat lamb often.😀

I tried it with several sauces, but my favorite was plain salt. The meat was so good that just salt alone was already delicious!!
A trick I learned this time for eating lamb skewers easily…! Pull the meat off right on the grill
What does gochujang black quabaorou taste like?

I also tried the black quabaorou I ordered as a side dish.

At first, the black color stood out compared to regular quabaorou. Taking a bite, the outside was crispy with that chewy texture typical of glutinous rice batter, while the meat inside was moist — the texture was quite good.

The black quabaorou sauce is apparently made in-house by Yangbokjeom. Since it's gochujang-based, it had a sweet-and-sour flavor with a slight kick of spice. That said, it wasn't overly spicy, so even I, who can't handle much heat, could eat it without worry.
Eaten together with the lamb skewers, it paired nicely with the clean flavor of the meat, and if you're looking for something a bit different from the usual quabaorou, it's worth ordering.
Is Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch worth a visit?
What stuck with me about Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch was the thick lamb skewers and the clean, tidy interior. The wangkkochi in particular had chunky pieces of meat, so grilling them over charcoal let me enjoy both the juiciness and the charcoal aroma, while the black quabaorou made a nice side with a different texture and flavor from the skewers.
If you're planning a visit, check the buy-one-get-one drink deal or the receipt review discount before ordering, and I'd recommend trying the black quabaorou alongside the lamb skewers. If you're looking for lamb skewers or other lamb dishes near Dongdaegu Station, I'd recommend giving Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch a visit!
