I was wandering around Anyang Bakdal Market on the weekend and stopped by nearby Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch for lunch. After browsing the market I was slowly getting hungry haha. That day I wanted something that felt like a real meal, so after some thought I decided on pork galbi (grilled pork ribs). I'd been looking for a place to eat meat in Bakdal-dong, and this spot turned out to be cleaner and more comfortable than I expected.

Inside the restaurant and the self-serve side dish bar

Walking into Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch, there are quite a lot of tables. The overall feel is clean, and it's a comfortable atmosphere for sitting and chatting with company while eating~ It wouldn't be a bad spot for a date over grilled meat either :)

And what I really liked was that there's a side-dish self-bar! If any side dish runs low while eating, you can just go grab more yourself, which was surprisingly convenient. The owner and staff were also kind, so I didn't have any uncomfortable moments during the meal.

Seasoned Korean pork galbi: marinade that isn't too sweet

The Korean pork seasoned galbi at Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch is served with the charcoal set on the table first, then grilled to eat. Real charcoal grilling, wow!!!!

First they bring out the charcoal like this~!

Korean pork seasoned galbi for two

Starting with the main menu item, the Korean pork seasoned galbi ~ I like seasoned galbi, but if the seasoning is too sweet I get sick of it after a few bites. Here, from what I tasted, the seasoning wasn't too sweet, which I liked. The meat was also on the tender side, so I could eat it comfortably without any toughness.

Grilling tips printed right on the table

What stood out especially was that instructions for how to eat the meat best were written right on the table, so I followed along while eating.

Eating it the recommended way instead of just grilling and eating plainly gave it a different feel.

Small guides like this are nice for first-time visitors to reference, so I liked it. Putting a piece of nicely browned meat down and nom nom...

Looking at the photo again makes me want to eat it once more haha.

Why you should add the egg custard (gyeran-jjim)

Generously portioned egg custard

The dish that quietly won me over most that day at Sannae Sutbul Galbi Bakdal Branch was the ₩5,000 egg custard (gyeranjjim). It caught my eye right away for looking quite generous, and when I tasted it, it was soft with just the right seasoning.

A bowl of soft egg custard

It wasn't too salty or intense, so my chopsticks kept going back for more. I strongly recommend ordering this alongside your meat!! Such a bewitching egg custard... haha.

Finishing with doenjang stew and a bowl of rice

Lastly, we ate doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) together with rice. The doenjang stew had tofu, onion, and meat mixed in evenly.

Above all, meat and doenjang stew are a guaranteed pairing. After a few bites of meat, a spoonful of rice, and then the stew, it truly started to feel like a proper meal.

Rather than just stopping at the meat, finishing with rice and doenjang stew made lunch feel satisfyingly complete :) Maybe it's because I'd just come from browsing the market, but the food went down even better haha.
