Yunseul is a shabu-shabu restaurant with window views on the first floor of Grand Central near Seoul Station, in Jung-gu, Seoul. What Yunseul looks like outside and inside

Exterior and interior of Yunseul

Grand Central is the building near Seoul Station where a lot of good restaurants cluster. I often end up eating here when I have plans in Myeongdong or Euljiro, since so many of the restaurants are clean and pleasant — great spots to set as a meeting place with friends.

Grand Central building and Yunseul's location

Facing Grand Central head-on, Yunseul — the shabu-shabu spot near Seoul Station for group meals — sits on the 2nd floor to the right.

Yunseul's location inside Grand Central

Inside, it's all hall tables with plenty of window seats, and the overall vibe is open, modern and sleek.

The window seats especially look out onto a green plaza, wide open, so it's a great spot to enjoy the greenery while eating slowly. Even visiting on a Sunday around 2pm, this Myeongdong-area / Seoul Station meeting spot Yunseul was completely full. And the staff were sooo kind!

How to order the shabu-shabu set at Yunseul

The shabu-shabu set menu is reasonably priced too, with sets for 2, 3, and 4 people, so it's easy to order according to your group size.

Having reserved ahead, everything was already set up for us at a window seat with a great view — a real date-worthy shabu-shabu spot near Seoul Station. The nice thing about shabu-shabu is the ingredients cook fast, so you don't have to wait around long.

Of the broth options, we picked the doenjang naengi broth for a healthier choice, haha. I've been to a lot of shabu-shabu places in Seoul but this is the first time I've seen a doenjang naengi broth. The fragrant naengi (shepherd's purse) aroma was lovely.

The prime pork neck can be ordered as an extra.

All the vegetables can be added extra too. Lion's mane mushroom, shiitake mushroom — all kinds of good-for-you mushrooms and vegetables filled the table, making it a fantastic, guilt-free choice for a brunch-time first meal of the day!

Mushroom and vegetable shabu-shabu ingredients

We dropped all the vegetables into the doenjang naengi broth and started it bubbling. The prime pork neck cooks fast too, which is great.

The 3 dipping sauces were all healthy-tasting too, and simmering the refreshing naengi broth with vegetables, mushrooms and meat until warm made it super delicious!! I wanted to order more meat but we ran into the 3pm break time, so we couldn't add on. We had to finish eating by 3pm, which was a bit of a shame.

The sideline dish, seasoned beef tendon (sujimuchim), was spicy and chewy — a surprisingly good extra.

The minari gonyi jeon (water dropwort and pollack roe pancake) was loaded with roe. Not really my thing, haha, so my friend went after the roe while I focused on the minari. We split the work nicely and cleared the plate, haha.

Finishing with kimchi fried rice and kalguksu at Yunseul

The kimchi fried rice was truly delicious — great eaten plain or mixed with the shabu-shabu broth, so good I almost wanted to take it home, haha. Highly recommend the kimchi fried rice!!

The finale of our Seoul Station shabu-shabu meal: kalguksu (hand-cut noodles)!! With the doenjang naengi broth tasting this good, anything simmered in it comes out delicious.

The kimchi was also super delicious!
