I went out for some good meat after a while! This time I visited Geumson Deunggalbi & Sundubu, famous for its pork ribs 🥺

It's a great place to chat with friends over good food, so it's a solid option these days when you're looking for a meetup spot haha

I was extra excited because this place features pork ribs as the main dish instead of the usual pork belly or pork rib jjim!

The inside was spacious and clean 🫶🏻

There was even a cute Snorlax doll, and the whole vibe was great for chilling and chatting with friends over a meal

The staff were also kind, so it was easy to order or ask for anything I needed :)

I ordered the pre-cut grilled pork ribs (soy + spicy) for 3 servings at Geumson Deunggalbi Sundubu Geoje Main Branch, ₩38,700. I wanted to try a variety of flavors, so I ordered half soy, half spicy for 3 servings!

The side dishes were neat and paired really well with the pork ribs...!!! ❤️

There was a dipping sauce

and even a salad

If the pork ribs start to feel a bit heavy, eating them with side dishes like baek-kimchi (white kimchi), mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad), and pickles made everything taste even better 🙂↕️

What comes with the set: grilled garnish and pork skin

This is the garnish you grill before eating the pork ribs!! I loved that it's included in the set without needing to order it separately!!

It was so good grilled••• and it was also great to eat later when things got spicy

This is the pork skin!! It comes already grilled so you don't have to grill it yourself, which made it easy to enjoy 🥺🥺

It wasn't chewy at all, just wonderfully bouncy and tasty ••♥️

Soy or spicy pork ribs: which one was better?

At Geumson Deunggalbi Sundubu Geoje Main Branch, ordering the pork ribs half soy and half spicy lets you try both flavors at once, which made it easy to figure out which sauce suits your taste 🤤

I started with the soy sauce pork ribs first!!

Since these come pre-cut, you can eat right away without grilling!! The sweet-savory soy sauce had soaked well into the ribs, making it the most approachable, easy-to-enjoy flavor...!!

Last up, the spicy sauce!

The spicy sauce really woke up my palate, and alternating between the two flavors made everything taste even better 🌶️ Above all, the meat itself was really tender.

With pork ribs you might worry the meat could be chewy, but tasting it myself, it was tender with almost no gamey smell, which I really liked.

And the real appeal of pork ribs is definitely the fun of pulling the meat off the bone haha. The meat came off the bone more easily than I expected, and picking it up with my hands and pulling it apart actually made it taste even better.

Cotton gloves, plastic gloves and tongs for eating ribs by hand

I thought eating pork ribs by hand might be inconvenient, but here they gave us cotton gloves plus plastic gloves on top! And for anyone who finds gloves uncomfortable, they even provide tongs

I was worried the pre-cut ribs might get cold, but I loved that we could eat right away without grilling...!! The hardest part is waiting for meat to cook while you're hungry haha, so having it come out pre-cut and ready to eat quickly was great!

Wearing the cotton gloves first and layering plastic gloves on top meant it wasn't hot and I didn't have to worry about getting sauce on my hands, which was nice

This paired really, really well with the pork ribs. The cool broth combined with the crunchy kimchi texture went surprisingly well with the ribs

Is Geumson Deunggalbi worth it? Final verdict

Eating the pork ribs at Geumson Deunggalbi & Sundubu this time, what struck me was that it's a meat dish you can enjoy more easily than expected.

The meat wasn't chewy, it was tender with no smell, and coming pre-cut so you can eat right away was also a plus. I'd recommend Geumson Deunggalbi & Sundubu 🫰
