Bad hair phase plus scalp trouble, so I booked scaling + cut
My hair had reached that awkward growing-out phase with no fix in sight, so I finally went to get it trimmed and shake things up a bit. While browsing to book a salon, a menu called 'head spa' caught my eye. Since I'd been noticing small trouble spots on my scalp lately and an oddly persistent itch, I figured why not go all in and booked a premium deep scaling set together with a cut.

Right in front of Ewha Station, with a 50/50 mix of male and female clients
The place I visited is right in front of Ewha Station, so accessibility is top-notch — it's

Once I got there, I realized it's a salon known specifically for hair loss treatment, head spa, and scalp scaling. Maybe that's why — at a typical salon, women far outnumber men, but here the ratio of male to female clients was oddly close to fifty-fifty. It confirmed this really is a place with a solid reputation for scalp spa treatments, regardless of gender.

Precision camera scalp diagnosis — and the screen was shocking
Before the actual treatment started, I had a consultation with designer Hyun-i

She photographed my current scalp condition with a precision camera and gave me a friendly one-on-one consultation. Seeing my scalp magnified in close-up on the screen was genuinely shocking. There was so much oil that the pore openings (the follicles where hair grows) were slightly clogged with sebum, there were faint signs of seborrheic scalp dermatitis, and dead skin flakes were piled up thickly. Seeing my scalp so blatantly enlarged was a little gross, honestly, but it drove home just how much care it needed. After a thorough explanation of my scalp condition, we finally moved into the premium deep scaling stage.

Premium deep scaling: aroma scent plus shoulder and scalp massage
Before starting the treatment, the designer asked how I'd been sleeping lately, and I told her my sleep pattern had been a mess recently and I'd been exhausted from not sleeping well.

She kindly explained an aroma essential oil suited exactly to my condition and had me inhale a relaxing scent first. As I slowly breathed it in, she gave my shoulders and head a light massage — and wow, her hands were seriously skilled. The pressure she applied to my tense shoulders and scalp felt so good, and with the soothing aroma and her expert massage combined at once, all the tension in my body melted away and I felt drowsy in the best way.

Scaling emulsion and Vital Fresh Essence
Next, she applied a scaling emulsion to loosen scalp buildup, followed by a Vital Fresh Essence to cool down scalp heat, step by step. She explained that the Vital Fresh Essence is especially good at cooling and reducing heat — the moment it touched my scalp, my whole head felt bright and cool, cool enough to give me goosebumps. It happened to be a bit hot out that day, so my scalp had been running warm, and having that cooling sensation wrap around my scalp felt so refreshing — it already felt like it was being cleansed spotless. While the treatment was going on, the designer shared plenty of useful scalp-care tips.

Apparently your scalp has a U-zone and a T-zone too
She explained that facial skin and the scalp are ultimately connected as one, so the scalp should be treated as real skin and cared for just as attentively. Just like facial skin is divided into U-zone and T-zone, the scalp has its own U-zone and T-zone, and the T-zone — the front crown and hairline area — especially needs regular care to maintain scalp health. Hearing all this useful explanation while getting scaled made the whole treatment feel much more professional and thorough. Next, a scalp hair mist device was run for about 20 minutes to help the scaling ingredients penetrate deep into the scalp. The warm steam wrapping around my head made me sleepy in the best way.

Massage chair and infrared care in the shampoo room
The next step moved to the shampoo room, and here's the amazing part: the shampoo chair is basically a state-of-the-art massage chair. I was already feeling loose and drowsy from the cool, refreshing scalp care, and then lying back in a chair that massages your whole body while the designer gave my hair a careful shampoo — it was pure bliss.

On top of that, infrared care was added, with a warm cover placed over my eyes, giving me real time to relax and heal. UV sterilization and Eco Revy's own shampoo and conditioner were all used generously too. After about 30 minutes lying comfortably in the massage chair getting a full-body massage and scalp care at the same time, I stood up feeling like my whole body — not just my head — had turned featherlight.
A layered cut finished off with a single phrase: 'lighten up the back'
Once the scalp scaling was fully done, we moved on to the actual layered cut. I'd already noticed how skilled the designer's touch was during the scaling, and sure enough, her cutting skills were just as impressive.

For the cut, I didn't bother explaining anything in detail — I just said something vague like, 'I'm in that awkward growing-out phase and it's frustrating, so I'd like the back lightened up a bit.'
And from that one vague line alone, she nailed exactly what I wanted — keeping as much length as possible while shaping it into a clean, light layered cut that hit the spot perfectly. I thought this place was just great for scalp scaling, but it turned out to be just as great for a perfect layered cut too. Once the cut was happily done, I had my scalp photographed once more with the camera, just like at the start, to check the results.

Before and after scaling: what actually changed
Seeing it with my own eyes, the difference was genuinely shocking. The greasy oil and flaky buildup that had been weighing my hair down were cleanly removed and drastically reduced, and the pores (the hair openings) that had been clogged and stuffy looked wide open, much clearer and cleaner. Comparing the before and after with my own eyes felt as satisfying as a cold drink on a hot day.

The designer said that getting scalp scaling regularly, about once a month, can help prevent seborrheic scalp dermatitis and keep the scalp consistently healthy and clean. After seeing such a dramatic change with my own eyes, I seriously considered booking an extra session right then and there. I'd strongly recommend heading to Eco Revy Hair Ewha Branch, an Ewha hair salon, and getting the scaling and layered cut together.
