Seodaemun rice bowl restaurant: 36-hour butadon at Sunhui Dining
In short
Sunhui Dining is a rice bowl restaurant in Seodaemun, Seoul, described as about two minutes on foot from Sinchon Station Exit 1. I shared 36-hour-aged butadon, spicy butadon, and soboro galbi rice; the standard aged butadon was the better choice for me because I do not handle spice well.

Is this a convenient spot for rice bowls in Sinchon?

Sunhui Dining (순희다이닝) was introduced as being about a two-minute walk from the above-ground Exit 1 of Sinchon Station. It was also about a five-minute walk from Ewha Womans University Station, so it was convenient to meet my younger sibling for a meal without a car.

The restaurant felt spacious, with wide gaps between the tables. I noticed decorative items that added to the atmosphere, and it looked suitable for gatherings or work dinners. However, I heard there can be a wait during peak hours.

How did ordering work, and what rice bowls were available?

There was a tablet at every table, so I ordered contactlessly. The meal options were 36-hour-aged butadon (Japanese pork rice bowl), 36-hour-aged spicy butadon, and soboro heaping galbi rice, and I could help myself to side dishes, soup, and extra rice at the self-service bar.

Two soboro heaping galbi rice bowls ₩19,000 · 36-hour-aged spicy butadon ₩10,000 · 36-hour-aged butadon ₩9,500 · two canned soft drinks ₩5,000

My younger sibling and I ordered the standard aged butadon, spicy butadon, and heaping galbi rice. Since I cannot eat spicy food well, I chose the standard butadon and heaping galbi rice.

What did the 36-hour-aged butadon taste like?

It was a rice bowl generously topped with aged pork. Adding wasabi brought out more flavor, and I could taste the crisp vegetables alongside the smoky flavor of the meat. Rather than mixing it all together, I ate it by placing the toppings over the rice like side dishes.

What should you choose if spicy food feels overwhelming?

The spicy butadon was grilled pork in a spicy sauce, served with green onion, onion, garlic flakes, and more. It was fairly spicy for me, so if you do not handle spice well, the standard aged butadon would be a better choice.

How was the soboro heaping galbi rice different from butadon?

The soboro heaping galbi rice included ground meat and stir-fried kimchi. It differed from the butadon, and the lightly sweet meat tasted refreshing with kimchi.

What stood out after the visit?

I remember the atmospheric interior, spacious seating, and kind service from the staff. Its proximity to Sinchon Station made it convenient to reach by public transit for a meal, and takeout was also listed as available.
