Ocean-view wood-fired hairtail set for a hearty Jeju meal: Hwadeogeuro

In short

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on the coastal road linking Iho Tewoo Beach and Aljjagi Beach in Jeju. The writer ordered the wood-fired Jeju hairtail-fish set, paired with thick cuts of hairtail, bean sprout soup, banchan, and self-bar extras like ssam vegetables, fried egg, and nurungji (scorched rice). Well-seasoned yet light and clean, not greasy at all, it made for a filling Jeju meal with an ocean view on top.

If you follow the coastal road from Iho Tewoo Beach toward Aljjagi Beach, it's on the 1st floor of the Naedo Eumak Sangga building. The building has its own parking lot, so parking is easy too.

Interior mood: the wood-fired oven and sea-facing windows

Walking inside, the first thing that caught my eye was the wood-fired oven near the kitchen. I got excited just imagining how the fish grilled over it would taste.

The place hasn't been open long, so it's clean, and best of all it has an ocean view — you can eat while looking out at the sea, which made me even more excited for this Jeju grilled fish spot.

What's at the self-bar?

On one side, there's a self-bar set up.

There are banchan (side dishes) and fresh ssam vegetables, plus a fry-your-own egg station and warm nurungji. This isn't just a place for grilled fish alone — it's a well-rounded Jeju grilled fish restaurant with a full menu and self-bar to match.

Instead of plain water, they brought lemon water. So refreshing~🫧

What's in the wood-fired Jeju grilled hairtail set

I ordered the wood-fired Jeju grilled hairtail set. It came with beautifully grilled hairtail from the wood-fired oven, rice, bean sprout soup, cucumber salad, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), black sesame lotus root salad, radish kimchi, and ssam vegetables with ssamjang.

Fresh wasabi served alongside the grilled hairtail set

Fresh wasabi came on the side, which was great with the soy sauce already on the table.

The hairtail looked appetizing from the start, all shiny and gleaming. It had the proper Jeju-hairtail look, and the flesh was quite thick too.

How does the wood-fired grilled hairtail taste?

The grilled hairtail itself was well seasoned, so it was plenty tasty even without dipping it in soy sauce. It had a savory, well-absorbed seasoning, yet somehow tasted very clean and light — maybe because of the wood-fired grilling.

No greasy or heavy feeling at all — just the fish's natural, clean flavor coming through!

Wrapped in a ssam leaf, it's seriously delicious!

Maybe because it's grilled over a wood fire, the flesh was moist inside while the outside grilled up clean and light — such a delicious wood-fired grilled fish! I also loved being able to eat leisurely with the sea spreading out through the window. Delicious grilled fish plus an ocean view made this Jeju meal feel extra special.
