Ansan Jungang Station BBQ dinner: aged galbisal 600g, Yangsimso

In short

Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch is a beef and pork Korean BBQ restaurant on the first floor of a building near Exit 1 of Ansan Jungang Station in Ansan, Gyeonggi. The writer came for dinner with her husband and child and ordered 600g of aged galbisal (short rib flap) unmarinated, and staff brought a marinade sauce on the side because a child was dining, so the family tasted it both raw and marinated; yukhoe (beef tartare) and a large doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came with the order, so there was almost nothing left to add. With 2 hours of free underground parking and a room for up to 28 people, Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch is worth a return visit for a family dinner.

Where is Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch? First floor near Exit 1

Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on the first floor of a building close to Exit 1 of Ansan Jungang Station. There are a lot of great restaurants in this building and I'd been there many times, but I never realized there was a BBQ place right on the first floor.

There's a parking lot in the basement of the building, and if you dine at the restaurant they register 2 hours of free parking for you.

Evening mood and the private room for up to 28

We visited Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch in the evening, and the interior atmosphere was great — it's quieter than the average BBQ restaurant, so you can eat comfortably. There's also a separate room, good for group gatherings or work dinners. The room is spacious, seating up to 28 people, just so you know!

You can also book through Naver, and if you write a Naver review you can download coupons for sausage or ice cream. Since we'd reserved ahead, they seated us right at a table already set up for our party size, so we could dig in immediately.

Aged galbisal 600g: why we ordered it unmarinated

Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch sells various beef cuts like galbisal (short rib flap), flower galbi, and tosisal, as well as pork cuts like samgyeopsal (pork belly), mokkasal (pork neck), and pork ribs, so there's plenty to pick from. My husband and I love samgyeopsal, but our kid is a total beef lover... so we absolutely have to come to restaurants that serve both. ^^;;;

Table with grill plate before ordering

We decided on 600g of aged galbisal, and then had some inner turmoil over raw vs. marinated vs. half-and-half... but figured both my husband and kid would like it raw, so raw it was! Ordering a full plate of galbisal comes with yukhoe and doenjang jjigae included — and these weren't just token side dishes! Check the photos below to see what I mean, haha.

Side dishes and sauces served with the meat

The side dishes and sauces served alongside the meat. Shiitake mushroom jang (fermented paste) and cheongyang chili soy sauce go really well with beef, and seeing them here made me think Yangsimso really knows its stuff.

The yukhoe and doenjang jjigae included with the order

The yukhoe and doenjang jjigae that come with a full plate of galbisal at Yangsimso. The doenjang jjigae isn't served in a small typical bowl — it's a full main-size portion, plenty to share. The yukhoe was fresh too, though for my taste the seasoning was a touch sweet.

The doenjang jjigae was packed with meat, and generous with tofu and vegetables too — the spicy kick made it closer to a gochujang stew, which made it a perfect side for my husband's soju.

Marinade sauce on the side because we came with a child

This is the point that made me go ★★★★★ for thoughtfulness. Since we were a table with a child, and had only ordered galbisal raw, the staff brought us marinade sauce separately so we could try it grilled with sauce too — I nearly teared up. Thanks to that, we also got to taste marinated galbisal, and my kid kept switching back and forth, saying both the raw and marinated versions were delicious! When I asked which one was better, my kid said they couldn't pick just one, haha.

Anyway, the meat at Yangsimso was delicious, and the staff were so kind that I felt grateful the whole meal. Cheers to our family's beef outing!

Lightly cooked raw galbisal

The meat was kind of thick, but since it's beef you only need to cook it lightly, so we ate quickly. For my kid, I cut it into small pieces with scissors, and it went down well with rice.

Galbisal served with rice and doenjang jjigae

The galbisal, yukhoe, and doenjang jjigae were all so good. The set was solid enough that aside from rice and drinks, we didn't need to order anything else. I really liked this BBQ restaurant near Jungang Station.

The beef galbisal was so juicy it was delicious even just dipped in salt, and it never got boring even mixed with different combinations. The cheongyang chili soy sauce especially was a must, so we asked for refills.

Finishing with kodari naengmyeon

My husband, the noodle glutton, said he'd have naengmyeon for dessert, and true to form, went for the piggish choice of kodari naengmyeon (dried pollock cold noodles), haha. He refuses plain naengmyeon.

Could he actually finish it all? I had my doubts, but as always he didn't disappoint me and cleaned the bowl, haha. I had a bite too, and the noodles were thin with plenty of pollock in it, so it went down easily... I'll admit it!

Is Yangsimso worth another family dinner?

On our first visit to Yangsimso, a beef galbisal spot, everything was satisfying — the food, the friendliness, and even the convenience of parking. When I'm looking for a good BBQ restaurant near Jungang Station, I'll definitely come back to Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch! Next time I should bring my parents along too.
